- Although the trailer highlights class abilities and UI elements, character movement in battle isn't shown.
Final Fantasy 14 Mobile recently revealed a new trailer featuring gameplay for all nine playable jobs in the standalone MMO. Though the base framework of the critically acclaimed MMORPG is the same, new abilities, animations, and UI elements suggest Final Fantasy 14 Mobile will be a little different from the game players are used to.
Recently, Final Fantasy 14 revealed it was developing a new mobile version of the decade-old MMO. Rather than a cross-compatible platform port like the FF14 Xbox version, Final Fantasy 14 Mobile is a standalone game featuring many of the title's jobs, stories, and activities streamlined for phones and similar devices.
Now, Final Fantasy 14 has officially revealed a trailer showcasing the combat system for the upcoming mobile title. Originally shared on Weibo, the video shows off the gameplay and UI elements for each of the nine Final Fantasy 14 Mobile jobs. Class abilities are organized in a mobile-friendly interface with 10 buttons, one of which is a large icon that seemingly uses new basic attack combos when pressed. Some of these abilities can also bring up radial menus to access extra buffs and skills, and trimmed-down versions of each job gauge can be seen above the interface.

However, there are a few differences that can be seen in the trailer. Several unique abilities are used, including a repeating Fell Cleave for Warriors, a flurry of punches from Monk, and a leaping sword slash combo for Paladins. What’s more, some animations seem to be new and improved, such as the Monk’s Elixir Field, Dragoon’s Geirskogul and Battle Litany, and the White Mage’s Holy spell. Additionally, several abilities used in the trailer weren’t available in the original game, and are usually unlocked after level 60 – the original max level in Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn.
That said, at no point during this gameplay trailer does any character move about the battlefield, calling into question what an actual fight would look like. Enemies still use telegraphed AoEs and have positional arrows on their targeting indicators, implying battles will require players to move while fighting. While this trailer did a great job showing off class abilities and UI, fans will have to wait a little longer to get a full grasp of how Final Fantasy 14 Mobile will truly play.
