Final Fantasy 14 Mobile is introducing its first dyeable mount to the game. While this addition is being received well by players of the mobile version of Final Fantasy 14, fans of the original MMORPG Final Fantasy 14 are upset, as they've been asking for this feature for years.
Final Fantasy 14 has an expansive list of dyes that players can procure to change the color of most of the gear in the game, plus select furniture for apartments and homes. However, beyond changing the color of a Company Chocobo, players who have wanted that level of customization for their mounts have been largely left in the cold.
Final Fantasy 14 Is Being Review Bombed
Final Fantasy 14 players are mass-posting negative Steam reviews of the game in response to recent actions from Square Enix.
Final Fantasy 14 Mobile Gets Feature Players Want in the Original
Final Fantasy 14 Mobile is adding a new mount called the Magitek Skateboard, which looks like a hoverboard. The base Skateboard is white and blue, but it's also the first original mount in the game that players can customize using dye. Given the importance of mounts in the game, being able to customize them in some way is something a lot of players are interested in, and have repeatedly asked Square Enix for over the years. However, this mount is limited to the mobile version of the game, and players seem doubtful that the feature will be brought to the original Final Fantasy 14 MMORPG.
As one might expect, this is stirring up frustration within the FF14 community. So far, the mobile game has only released in China, with no announced release date for a global version, so most western gamers have no way of checking out the new mount. However, the biggest complaint is that Final Fantasy 14 Mobile is getting this feature when the original MMORPG still lacks it. Players have previously been upset by FF14 Mobile getting more advanced dye channels than the original version, giving mobile players more opportunities for unique looks.
Though Final Fantasy 14 is still a very loved game by the community, it has shortcomings, and issues like these make them stand out all the more. Players are already frustrated with the aging infrastructure of the game that limits things like the number of glamour plates and equipment storage a user has access to, as well as limited housing that's insufficient for heavily populated servers. Even the addition of a second dye channel to gear disappointed most players due to secondary channels often only encompassing tiny details like buttons or buckles. For now, it's not known if FF14 Mobile's features will ever be added to the original game. If such a reveal is made, it will likely be at the upcoming Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festivals that will be held in 2026.
