Summary

  • FF14 Mobile reveals new features like 16 dye channels, causing frustration among fans of the traditional MMORPG.
  • Players also feel envious of WoW's housing system, citing limitations in FF14's player housing and customization.
  • Development issues and player weariness pile up as FF14 struggles to meet player demands and expectations.

Final Fantasy 14 Mobile is revealing some of the features of the game, and fans of the original version of Final Fantasy 14 aren't thrilled about it. The problem isn't that the mobile game looks bad, but rather that the mobile variant seems to have some features and inclusions that the traditional Final Fantasy 14 MMORPG is lacking.

Final Fantasy 14 is in the middle of its post-Dawntrail content, which includes the recent addition of Cosmic Exploration. Gamers are always asking for new things from the game, and some of these requests don't get answered the way that the playerbase might like. Unfortunately, it now seems that mobile version players will be gaining access to some things that fans have wanted for a long time, but have still failed to arrive in the traditional MMORPG.

What if...Final Fantasy 14 Never Got A Realm Reborn?

A closer look at what could’ve happened if Square Enix abandoned Final Fantasy 14 instead of saving it with A Realm Reborn.

Final Fantasy 14 players have been looking at the recent information shared surrounding the mobile version of the game. Among other things, the mobile version of the title has shared reveals like equipment having 16 different dye channels that can be used to fully customize the look of gear, as well the inclusion of things like Gaius' Garlemald armor, or Sephiroth's single wing. Fans on Reddit have been openly sharing their frustrations over these additions, as new glamour sets and more dye channels have been demanded for a long time. For comparison's sake, Final Fantasy 14 only recently added a secondary dye channel for players to customize their gear with. However, that release was met with some disappointment, as the change hasn't yet been made to all gear, and the secondary dye channels aren't always what players want or expect.

Final Fantasy 14 Frustration Keeps Piling Up

While these are some of the most recent frustrations with the MMORPG, they're far from the only ones. Players have also looked over at World of Warcraft with some envy lately, as WoW has unveiled its housing system, which will have some major differences from Final Fantasy 14's. For example, Final Fantasy 14 player houses are demolished after a set period of inactivity, and players are limited to a maximum of 400 items in the largest homes. In comparison, World of Warcraft has no demolition timer, and allows a whopping 10,000 items.

Some players chock up these issues as limitations due to nearly 12 years having passed since Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn launched. Final Fantasy 14 has also experienced similar development difficulties in recent years to its predecessor, Final Fantasy 11, due to being originally developed for older PlayStation consoles. While Final Fantasy 14 is still a much-loved MMORPG, its problems are beginning to pile up, and between that and the Dawntrail expansion having a tepid response from fans, players are becoming weary.
