Final Fantasy 14 Mobile looks to bring the iconic MMORPG to mobile devices, and the game will be free to play. Final Fantasy 14 Mobile will reportedly not have gacha mechanics, but will feature microtransactions. So far, the game is set to release in June in China, but the release date for other regions hasn't been announced. However, some details about its gameplay are coming to light.
Final Fantasy 14 Players Express Concerns Over 7.25 Update
Although Final Fantasy 14's Patch 7.25 launches on May 27, players already have concerns about one of the update's most anticipated facets.
Now, new information from a source called Umadori has revealed details around some of the game's microtransactions, and how players will be able to skip time-consuming, tedious tasks. According to the leak, players will be able to upgrade their Extreme weapons to their glowing variants by using a microtransaction currency called "wind currents." Players will also be able to skip their job quests by paying. Finally, cosmetic dyes for Final Fantasy 14 equipment will also be on the microtransaction list, with varying prices for "normal" dyes and "rare" dyes, though some will remain free. At the moment, the pricing will allegedly be 60 yen ($0.42 USD) for wind currents and normal dyes, while rare dyes will cost 200 yen, or about $1.40 USD.
Final Fantasy 14 Mobile Microtransactions Concern Fans, But Aren't Unexpected
Some players have expressed worry about these microtransactions, as they're concerned that it's just the tip of the iceberg. Others, however, have suggested that some of these prices are surprisingly low. However, it could easily add up in cases. With 22 total jobs in Final Fantasy 14 and Final Fantasy 14 Mobile equipment having 16 dye channels, it's easy to see how a player who wants to skip a lot of this content and have fully customized gear could end up spending a significant sum of money.
With that said, the original MMORPG also has its fair share of optional microtransactions. In addition to glamour gear in the Mog Station, Final Fantasy 14 also lets players skip through expansions or fully level their jobs by spending cash. The prices for these microtransactions go as high as $25 USD. Dyes can also be purchased through the Mog Station, with the cost of one dye typically being $1, or players can buy ten for $7.50. While the cost of skipping job quests in Final Fantasy 14 Mobile isn't yet known, the prices for dye are comparable, or even cheaper, depending on the dye a player wants.
Since Final Fantasy 14 Mobile is still in its testing phase and these are leaks, everything is subject to change. With any luck, the microtransactions in Final Fantasy 14 Mobile won't drive players away.
