On June 19, the development of Final Fantasy 14 Mobile reached a new phase as the portable adaptation of Square Enix's critically acclaimed MMORPG saw a full release in China. The launch of Final Fantasy 14 Mobile includes content from A Realm Reborn, along with five races and nine combat Jobs for players to choose from
Final Fantasy 14 Mobile was first revealed by FF14 director and producer Naoki Yoshida in November 2024 via a surprise announcement on social media. In the months that followed, Square Enix and developer LightSpeed Studios addressed players' questions concerning the mobile project's monetization models and content. Compared to the current version of Final Fantasy 14, the mobile counterpart offers a simpler approach to combat, utilizing touchscreen controls available on iOS and Android devices. Iconic Final Fantasy franchise Jobs, like the Warrior, Dragoon, and Bard, are among the initial offerings that players can level.
Best Live-Service Fantasy Games
From Genshin Impact to The Elder Scrolls Online, there are a plethora of great fantasy-based live-service games to check out.
After months of closed beta testing in China, Final Fantasy 14 Mobile took a major step in its ongoing development. As reported by RPGSite, Final Fantasy 14 Mobile is now available on supported Android and iOS phones as a free-to-play title, though the game remains exclusive to China as of this writing. Since revealing the project in November, neither Square Enix nor LightSpeed Studios has posted a timeframe for Final Fantasy 14 Mobile's global launch. Although Final Fantasy 14 Mobile is free-to-play, the game's monetization model remains a point of contention with players. According to posts from the r/ffxivmobile subreddit, cosmetic items like dyes, mounts, and the race-changing Fantasia potion are available via microtransactions by converting real money into in-game currency. The online store in Final Fantasy 14 Mobile is available after players complete the level 23 trial against Ifrit.
Final Fantasy 14 Mobile Goes Live In China
Final Fantasy 14 Mobile requires 20GB of available storage space and at least 3.5GB of RAM, meaning a device like the iPhone 16 could comfortably run the game. Final Fantasy 14 Mobile includes access to the main story of A Realm Reborn, five playable races like the Miqo'te and Elezen, and nine combat Jobs to pick from. However, races and Jobs from expansions like Heavensward and Stormblood could arrive in later updates.
While Final Fantasy 14 Mobile is currently exclusive to China, global players may have an opportunity to learn more about the new launch. Yoshida will host the 87th Letter From the Producer LIVE broadcast on Friday, June 20, at 7:00 AM Eastern to discuss the upcoming Patch 7.3 and address player feedback on the Occult Crescent. With any luck, Final Fantasy 14 Mobile could be mentioned during the show.
