Final Fantasy 14 is gearing up to celebrate its 12th anniversary with The Rising event, featuring a brand-new questline and the Wind-up Gulool Ja Ja as a free reward. From August 27 until September 11, all Final Fantasy 14 fans can participate in this event and earn this charming reward.
The Rising is the name given to the in-game event that celebrates the re-release of Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn in 2013, and in-universe, the Calamity that nearly wiped out Eorzea at the end of the original MMO. The rewards from The Rising are some of the most exciting and popular of all holiday events, such as the Phoenix transformation mount from the critically-acclaimed MMORPG’s 10th anniversary in 2023.
Why Final Fantasy 14's Current 'Slump' Is Both a Blessing and a Curse
While most agree Final Fantasy 14 is not at its zenith presently, there is a silver lining to this fact that provides a unique opportunity.
The Rising Returns to Final Fantasy 14 on August 27, 2025
Now, The Rising is returning in 2025 with another fantastic reward. Starting August 27 at 12 AM PT, and running until September 11 at 7:59 AM PT, players will be able to pick up the “An Adventurous Ambition” quest from the Wandering Minstrel in Limsa Lominsa. Characters only need to be level 15 in order to participate, meaning even new fans should have no trouble doing so. Completing this quest will reward them with the Wind-up Gulool Ja Ja minion, allowing them to bring a tiny version of the beloved Dawntrail character to join the Warrior of Light on their travels.
Historically, The Rising has a tendency to break the fourth wall, often using the Wandering Minstrel – FF14 director and producer Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida’s in-game proxy – to deliver a message of thanks directly to the playerbase. Additionally, these events often contain cryptic clues for future story developments. Considering FF14 just wrapped up the main story arcs of Dawntrail in Patch 7.3, fans may receive a subtle teaser for the next expansion during the quest.
In the meantime, the Moonfire Faire event is still ongoing, with the summer celebration concluding on August 26, right before The Rising starts. Then, in early October, Monster Hunter Wilds is crossing over with FF14, featuring an obtainable Seikret mount and a special encounter against Guardian Arkveld.
Were this not exciting enough, Final Fantasy 14 might be coming to the Switch 2 soon. Yoshida has reportedly had “positive discussions” with Nintendo about bringing FF14 to the platform, which would expand the popular MMO to a whole new community. If Switch 2 gamers are lucky, they may also be able to participate in future runs of The Rising event within the next year or two.
