WARNING: The following article contains MAJOR SPOILERS for Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail.
On October 31, Final Fantasy 14 shared the first glimpses of its upcoming 7.4 content update, titled Into The Mist. Patch 7.4 for Final Fantasy 14 will launch on December 16 on all platforms and will be highlighted by the final tier of The Arcadion raid series, as well as some highly requested quality-of-life changes.
The main story of Final Fantasy 14's 7.4 update will explore more of the Ninth Shard, following the events of Patch 7.3. Players will eventually travel to the Mistwake dungeon and another city powered by electrope. Along the way, Final Fantasy 14 players will encounter the Doomtrain from Final Fantasy 8 as the main story's Trial boss. The Doomtrain Trial, titled Hell on Rails, will be available on Normal and Extreme difficulties, and should offer new weapons and a mount for players to claim. It remains to be seen what tricks the Doomtrain will utilize in the Hell on Rails battle.
Final Fantasy 7 Director Weighs In On the 'Original vs Remake' Debate
Square Enix director Naoki Hamaguchi states whether new Final Fantasy 7 players should play the original game from 1997 or the 2020 remake first.
Final Fantasy 14 Shares Initial Patch 7.4 Plans
During the Letter from the Producer Live Part 89 broadcast, Final Fantasy 14 producer and director Naoki Yoshida confirmed that Patch 7.4, Into The Mist, will arrive on Tuesday, December 16. The Arcadion's AAC Heavyweight Tier will be available in normal mode from the start, along with new crafted gear and a new tomestone currency called Allagan Tomestones of Mnemonics. The Savage version of the AAC Heavyweight Tier will be available three weeks later, on January 6. Yoshida stated this special launch was due to feedback from the Chaotic Alliance Raid, which launched on Christmas Eve in 2024, and the developers did not want the arrival of The Arcadion's final Savage raid tier to interfere with anyone's winter holiday plans.
The 7.4 update will also include a major change to Final Fantasy 14's glamour system, as Job and role restrictions around various pieces of armor will be removed once the patch goes live in December. While weapons and tools will still be Job-exclusive due to animation limitations, the 7.4 glamour changes will allow a Dark Knight's armor to have the appearance of a White Mage, as one example. This change to the glamour system will give players greater creative freedom to customize their characters. The changes can be applied via the Glamour Dresser or Glamour Plates.
Yoshida confirmed the highly requested Strategy Board feature will arrive in Final Fantasy 14 Patch 7.4, which will offer raid teams a handy tool to face the AAC Heavyweight Tier. Other 7.4 features will be discussed in more detail in the 90th Live Letter broadcast, which will be scheduled closer to Patch 7.4's launch.
