Players that want to unlock and master every ability in Final Fantasy 16 will need to accumulate nearly 120,000 AP. While fans can certainly attempt to earn these Ability Points through standard gameplay, some players may want to take a more targeted approach and farm for them. This guide is here to assist with that endeavor, and it will detail several excellent AP farms in Final Fantasy 16.

To note, while players can utilize one of the AP farms detailed in this guide prior to unlocking the Wages of Warcraft accessory, they may want to put their farming on hold until that item has been obtained. For the uninitiated, the Wages of Warcraft increases the number of Ability Points that are awarded from normal combat encounters by 20%, and it can be purchased from Charon's Toll once the Cid the Outlaw main quest has begun. This is undoubtedly a significant bonus, and it makes AP farming much faster.

Updated On September 21st, 2024 By Joshua Leeds: The Rising Tide introduces a whole new area for players to free roam in during and after completing the story of the DLC. While it may not have the best AP farming location overall, it does introduce a good area to farm AP and XP for those looking to also reach the max level. This article has been updated to include that information for those with the DLC and farming at the end of the game.

Bluebirds Near Northreach Obelisk

ff16 ap farm

The best way to farm AP in the early game is to repeatedly kill Bluebirds, unique Chocobo that grant 40 Ability Points when dispatched. The following maps showcase two areas that feature these enemies, and players can respawn the beasts indefinitely by fast traveling to the nearby obelisks. Notably, the second location is much better than the first for fast AP farming, and fans should plan to use it once they have access to the area.

Final Fantasy 16: AP Farm (Mid Game)

ff16 free cities

As players work through FF16's story, they will receive the Cloak and Dagger main quest, which ends with a trip to the Free Cities of Kanver. This trip is currently believed to be the best opportunity to farm AP, as fans can continually reset the map's enemies, which award a ton of Ability Points, by fast traveling to a different location. To maximize the efficacy of this farm, players are advised to simply focus on the first three groups of enemies, resetting the map every time that those foes have been slain.

To note, if a player has already completed this section of the game, they can attempt to farm the Free Cities of Kanver through the Stage Replay feature that is available on FF16's Arete Stone. The enemies will not grant as much AP as they do during a first playthrough of Cloak and Dagger, though, and fans that have completed that quest may be better off targeting the next Ability Point farm.

Final Fantasy 16: AP Farm (DLC - The Rising Tide)

The Tailwind Bay Obelisk On The Map

Despite The Rising Tide taking place after most of the base game, it doesn't have the best overall AP farming location. Despite this, the farming location does offer a good mix between both AP and XP, as the enemies fought in this region are a much higher level than any found in the base game, usually around level 50. Starting from the Obelisk Tailwind Bay, travel backwards and clear out the various groups of enemies in Tailwind Bay.

The groups of Widow Makers and Wolf Traps will give between 24-50 AP and a few thousand XP at a time. The Northern Wolves also only give 24 AP, but 2,000 XP. The Archeleon gives 80 AP if you take the time to defeat it, totaling about 200-250 AP for clearing out the region and roughly 12,000 XP, making this an ideal place to farm AP and level up before starting FF16's Final Fantasy mode.

For those fans that are beyond the Cloak and Dagger quest, repeatedly slaying the Hyenas near the Ravenwit Walls Obelisk seems to be the best option for farming Ability Points. The following map showcases the precise position of those enemies, and players can once again reset them by using FF16's fast travel feature.
