Summary

  • Final Fantasy 16 Complete Edition includes the base game and both of its DLC packs.
  • After releasing on PC, it is now available on PlayStation 5 for $70, with the base game now priced at $50.

Final Fantasy 16 Complete Edition is available now on PS5. Fans were surprised by Final Fantasy 16's return to the medieval fantasy setting, in addition to its implementation of a new battle system to the mainline series. FF16 went all-in on real-time action with Ryota Suzuki at the helm of combat design, allowing players to immerse themselves further within the release's notably darker and more violent interpretation of a Final Fantasy world.

Many did enjoy Final Fantasy 16 after the discourse about its controversial change to the battle system settled down, but despite the positive critical reception, FF16 didn't meet Square Enix's sales expectations. Following Final Fantasy 16's timed exclusivity deal on the PlayStation 5, it launched on the PC, offering a wider range of optimization settings and support for mods, which may extend the game's life beyond what Square Enix had expected.

Final Fantasy 16 Complete Edition includes the base game along with its Echoes of the Fallen and The Rising Tide DLC expansions. In addition, the standard version of FF16 will sell at a reduced price from now on. Currently, on the PlayStation Store page for the title, the base game is priced at its new price of $49.99, and the Complete Edition is set at this console generation's standard price of $69.99. Although the game will likely get other updates, these appear to be the last expansions Final Fantasy 16 will receive.

Final Fantasy 16 Complete Edition Contents

  • Final Fantasy 16 base game
  • Echoes of the Fallen DLC
  • The Rising Tide DLC

According to Square Enix, DLC was not initially planned for Final Fantasy 16. Regardless, Echoes of the Fallen and The Rising Tide were well-received by fans, enriching the game's narrative experience while expanding on the series' newest iteration of its combat system through the addition of more Eikons. After the DLC came out, the development team focused the rest of its efforts on the PC Version of Final Fantasy 16, which was released on September 17.

Now that Final Fantasy 16 Complete Edition is out for PlayStation 5 and PC, gamers have started to wonder what's coming next for the Final Fantasy franchise. A PC release for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth would fall in line with the company's current strategy of expanding to all possible platforms. Fans may be ready to hear news about Final Fantasy 17, but new mainline titles have started to trend toward releasing once each generation, so it could take a while before such a game is unveiled.
