  • Players can create quality-of-life mods, but inappropriate content is not encouraged.
  • Final Fantasy 16's PC release requires powerful hardware like an SSD and 8GB VRAM graphics card.

In an interview, Final Fantasy 16 producer Naoki Yoshida requested that players not create or install offensive and inappropriate mods for the game's imminent PC release. Although Yoshida left the door open for Final Fantasy 16 players to make and use quality-of-life mods on PC, he drew the line at the types of mods that Square Enix would frown upon.

The PC version of Final Fantasy 16 will arrive over a year after its initial release on the PS5. While Final Fantasy 16 was initially considered a PS5-exclusive title, Square Enix later stated that the PC version would be developed after several fan requests were made. Since Final Fantasy 16 was designed to take advantage of the PS5's hardware, such as the SSD for fast loading times and the DualSense controller's haptic feedback features, the PC version will require some powerful parts. In addition to an SSD, a graphics card with at least 8GB of VRAM and an 8-core processor are recommended.

Final Fantasy 14 Developer Teases New Project

Final Fantasy 14 lead Naoki Yoshida says in an interview that Creative Studio 3 is working on a new project on top of its ongoing works.

A day before the release of Final Fantasy 16 on Steam and Epic Games Store, one of Square Enix's leaders requested players to be on their best behavior with the game's mods. In an interview with PC Gamer, Yoshida asked players not to upload or use offensive or inappropriate mods for Final Fantasy 16. While it is unclear what action Square Enix could take against anyone who does not heed Yoshida's warning, the Final Fantasy 16 producer also implied that the modding door would remain open for players who want to create mods to enhance their experience with the game. At the time of writing, Final Fantasy 16 has no mods available on Nexus Mods, though other titles such as Devil May Cry 5 and Kingdom Hearts 3 have had thematic FF16 mods that include music and menu changes.

The launch of Final Fantasy 16 on PC will come at a pivotal time for Square Enix. With the AAA game company shifting toward multi-platform releases for all its major franchises, such as Final Fantasy, this may benefit PC players down the line. Final Fantasy 16 game director Hiroshi Takai previously stated that future Final Fantasy titles could have day-one PC launches. Whether Takai's statement rings true in the future remains to be seen.

Between the game's PC launch, and continued speculation surrounding an Xbox launch, more players will soon experience the story and Eikonic battles of Final Fantasy 16. Only time will tell how the PC version will be received by players.
