With the release of Final Fantasy 16 for PC, users on Steam will finally be able to experience Clive Rosfield's adventure throughout Valisthea, and players will have the option to experience this story the way it was meant to be enjoyed, or with mods made by other members of the community.
While Final Fantasy 16 may be a polarizing game to some, it's still a solid, story-driven action-RPG title at its core. Mods may alleviate some concerns, and if installing user-made content is something you find interesting, here's a quick overview on how to install mods for the Steam version of the game.
Final Fantasy 16: Best Abilities To Unlock First
Final Fantasy 16 has a host of abilities for Clive to unlock and master, but players will want to focus on acquiring a few specific ones first.
How To Mod FF16 On PC
Mod installation generally depends on what type of mod is being installed. For the most part, the ones available for Final Fantasy 16 only need to be extracted to the game's main folder. As of writing, the majority of FF16 mods are performance fixes, reshaders, and minor gameplay tweaks, but as time goes on, it's safe to expect some mods that alter textures and models, or even add completely new content to the game.
As per usual, players can source their mods from Nexusmods, one of the most popular websites on the internet when it comes to getting user-generated content for games like Skyrim and so much more.
Players can find their game's installation folder by going to their Steam Library, right-clicking on Final Fantasy 16, and selecting the Browse Local Files option from the Manage menu. This automatically opens up an Explorer tab leading straight to the game's directory. Download any mod, then extract its contents into the installation folder. Unless otherwise specified, make sure the files themselves are in the same place as the ffxvi.exe file.
Uninstalling Mods
If you've installed a mod and figured that you'd rather experience have the vanilla Final Fantasy 16 experience, all you need to do is delete the files you placed in the installation folder. With that being said, it's best to always have backups of saves and important game files to avoid potential data loss or corruption. As a rule of thumb when modding any game, if a mod requires you to overwrite a file, make sure to have a backup of that file before replacing it.
Additionally, mods that come with automated installers may come with uninstallers as well. In those cases, just run the related program, and it will clean your game for you.
