Though the launch of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is just days away, Square Enix confirmed that an update for the free demo of the highly-anticipated title will go live on Wednesday, February 21, around 7:00 AM Eastern. The new update to the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth demo will give players an exclusive glimpse at the Junon area and will bring some fixes to the demo's Performance Mode.
Shortly after the PlayStation State of Play broadcast dedicated to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Square Enix confirmed that the game would receive a substantial demo that would cover the infamous Nibelheim flashback from Cloud's point-of-view, which covers the first couple of hours of the game. The company quickly stated that Nibelheim would not be the only thing the demo would give players, as Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth reiterated that a second part of the demo would be released as a free update. At the time of writing, the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth demo requires just over 46 GB of storage space, which is just under one-third of the storage space that the full version of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will need.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Dev Hints at Third Game's Progress
The developers behind Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth discuss where they are with the series' third and last installment, and when fans could finally play it.
It is not known if or how much additional space will be needed for the demo update. But, players will not have long to experience more content ahead of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's release. The demo update will be released on Wednesday, February 21, at around 7:00 AM Eastern time. The demo will provide not only an exclusive experience of the Junon area for players to see, but the demo's Performance Mode will see improvements to the graphical quality following player feedback on social media. The Performance Mode update to the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth demo will also carry over into the game's full release on February 29.
What Time Does the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Demo Update Launch?
- Around 7:00 AM Eastern time on Wednesday, February 21.
Once the update goes live, both parts of the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth demo will give players an idea of how massive the game is. However, players will need to complete the Nibelheim flashback part of the demo to access the Junon portion. While the Nibelheim flashback will carry over the progress made during it into the full version, the Junon segment will not. A similar method was employed during the Final Fantasy 16 demo in 2023, in which only Clive's flashback to Phoenix Gate carried over.
With the imminent launch of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the PS5 will see a three-month string of exclusive title releases. Only time will tell if both Sony and Square Enix can keep the momentum going.
