In the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, players explore the world of Gaia on the first step of Cloud's journey. While trying to save the planet, Cloud and his friends will have many opportunities to fight and get stronger. In-game, this growth will happen by finding the best weapons, materia, and accessories including one called the Gotterdammerung.

The Gotterdammerung is a powerful accessory that allows whoever wears it to start the fight by firing off a fully charged Limit Break. More importantly, the Limit Break bar will begin to charge after depleting, even without any actions from the player character. As a result, it drastically cuts down the time between fight-deciding attacks, healing, or other utility abilities.

Unlocking the Gotterdammerung

Players will get the Gotterdammerung as the prize for beating a secret challenge at the VR Combat Simulator towards the end of the story. However, the challenge requires several steps before it even becomes available for Cloud and the group to take on.

  1. Complete every Corneo Colosseum challenge in Chapter 9 and Chapter 14.
  2. During Chapter 16, complete all challenges in the Shinra HQ VR Combat Simulator.
  3. Complete the main story once to unlock Hard Mode.
  4. Head back to Chapter 17 on Hard Mode, talk to Chadley at Shinra HQ, and complete all the new Final Fantasy 7 Remake  challenges.

Once everything is finished, the "Three Person Team vs Top Secrets" Challenge will appear in the VR Simulator list.

Three Person Team vs Top Secrets

As the final obstacle before acquiring the Gotterdammerung, this secret challenge will test everything players have learned up to this point. The fight is a boss rush consisting of five enemies with no rest in between. Because of the stipulations, it is important that Aerith is one of the three team members and everyone wears Revival Earrings to avoid getting KO'd in one hit. The first 4 rounds are battles against the summons Shiva, Fat Chocobo, Leviathan, and Bahamut that can be dealt with the same way as in previous fights. The final foe, however, is a massive machine called Pride and Joy Prototype. Keep close to avoid its ranged beam, destroy the feet to stagger it, and use Thunder element or melee attacks to triumph over the construct. Once Pride and Joy falls, the challenge is finished and players will receive the Gotterdammerung.

Afterwards, players are free to go through the entire rest of the story in Hard Mode which should be significantly easier thanks to the power of their new accessory.
