Cloud Strife’s English voice actor just hinted that recording for Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s next sequel might already be underway. So far, Square Enix’s modern Final Fantasy 7 update has been released as a series of games, with last year’s Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth covering the party’s journey outside of Midgar and ending shortly after the fateful trip to the Temple of the Ancients. The third installment of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series is expected to cover the rest of the original storyline, which is still regarded among many fans as one of the best in the series.
There is still no word on when fans can expect to play the third Final Fantasy 7 Remake game, though members of the development team have indicated that progress is moving along nicely. Late last year, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth producer Yoshinori Kitase and director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed that the story of the next installment has already been locked in, with pre-production work beginning around June 2022. Hamaguchi also said that he is satisfied with how the development cycle is progressing and that there haven’t been any significant setbacks so far.
Five Years Ago, Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s Biggest Gamble Paved the Way for Rebirth’s Freedom
Five years ago, Final Fantasy 7 Remake introduced characters who would go on to pave the way for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth to make some changes.
Another encouraging sign recently came from Cody Christian, the English voice actor for Cloud Strife in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series. In a now-deleted Instagram post (as reported by GamesRadar+), Christian is shown wearing a pair of headphones in a recording booth with a caption that reads “so happy to be back with my bestie.” There was also a miniature graphic of Cloud in the post, so many fans are assuming that he is now recording for the third Final Fantasy 7 Remake game or at least a project with Cloud in it.
Cloud’s English Actor May Already Be Recording Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3
If Cody Christian is indeed recording for the next Final Fantasy 7 Remake game, then it might be even further along in development than fans previously thought. Voice acting is usually recorded near the end of a game's production cycle to avoid plot details being leaked online or to account for changes that would require dialogue to be redone.
There is also the chance that Christian’s post pertains to another Final Fantasy-related project like the upcoming Kingdom Hearts 4, or the Cloud image could just have been meant to throw people off as he works on something else entirely. In any case, many fans are looking forward to hearing Cody Christian as Cloud in the next Final Fantasy 7 Remake game, especially since the last entry ended on a major cliffhanger with serious ramifications for the spikey-haired, Buster Sword-wielding hero.
