Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy director Naoki Hamaguchi stated that the keyword for the saga's highly anticipated third part has already been decided, and that it will dictate gameplay and story direction. Hamaguchi also noted that the past keywords for Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth, "reunion" and "bonds," both correlated with each game's main themes and philosophies.

While Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth originally launched as timed exclusives on PlayStation consoles, Square Enix has since shifted to a multi-platform approach for its major releases. After sharing that Final Fantasy 7 Remake will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S consoles on January 22, 2026, Hamaguchi added that the rest of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy would also arrive on those platforms. However, it is currently unclear if FF7 Remake's third chapter will be a timed exclusive on the PlayStation platform or if it will be a multi-platform launch from the start.

The Keyword For Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3's Design Philosophy Has Been Decided

Weeks after sharing that Square Enix had an internal release window for FF7 Remake Part 3, Hamaguchi clued fans in on another aspect of its ongoing development. In a September interview with German media outlet JPGames, Hamaguchi stated that the keyword used to shape the upcoming chapter's gameplay and story themes has already been decided by the development team. However, Hamaguchi stopped short of revealing Part 3's keyword, but offered fans some context behind the keywords used for Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth. For FF7 Remake, the keyword "reunion" described how Square Enix wanted fans to be reintroduced to the saga's main characters and setting. For Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the keyword "bonds" symbolized the relationships that each character had with one another, and how those bonds strengthened over the course of the story.

Hamaguchi also said that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 had some playable developer builds where the theme can be figured out through gameplay. Hamaguchi confirmed that Final Fantasy 7 Remake's third chapter would also be the saga's climax, and that it would be "a really great send off" for the series. The story of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 should pick up immediately where Rebirth left off, following the events at the Forgotten Capital.

The whole Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy is coming to Xbox and Switch 2.final

Although Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is not listed on Square Enix's itinerary for the 2025 Tokyo Game Show, Hamaguchi teased fans by stating they would not have to wait long to hear more information. Only time will tell when Square Enix will show fans more about the trilogy's finale.
