Final Fantasy 7 Remake has received a new surprise update almost four years after its original release, fixing bugs but also breaking one popular mod. The second installment of Final Fantasy 7 Remake is about to be released, and it seems that Square Enix is trying to polish the previous game a bit for people who may be playing it this week.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake was originally released for PS4 in 2020, with a PC version coming out in 2022. The game remade the first third of the classic RPG, following Cloud Strife’s fight against the evil megacorp Shinra in the cyberpunk-ish city of Midgar. By doing that, it turned a short early-game section into a full-blown experience, exploring every single aspect of one of the most interesting locations in FF7.
The update 1.003 for Final Fantasy 7 Remake was released for PlayStation and PC without warning earlier this week. While Square Enix did not divulge any specific patch notes, it claims that the update fixes several bugs. However, the patch has also proven to be somewhat controversial.
What Does Final Fantasy 7 Remake's Patch 1.003 Change?
- The patch fixes several bugs.
- Some gamers have noticed it changes Tifa's clothes in one flashback scene.
- The patch stops the popular FFVIIHook Mod from working.
Some fans noticed that aside from fixing bugs, Square Enix changed Tifa’s clothing during a flashback, adding a black undershirt under her white shirt. While it’s a harmless change that was probably done to resemble her clothes’ design in Rebirth, it did not sit well with some fans. The other, more detrimental change is that the popular FFVIIHook mod stopped working after the update went live. Known as one of the best mods for Final Fantasy 7 Remake, FFVIIHook gave players access to console commands that could allow them to change to the configuration of FF7R.
It’s probable that Square Enix decided to release the patch now because of the upcoming release of the game’s sequel. FF7 Rebirth will be released on February 29, and it’s likely that many gamers will want to play the predecessor before diving into the new adventure.
Despite not being released yet, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth already has excellent reviews, which praise the enhanced gameplay, several story moments, and its sprawling world filled with fun activities. The only complaints so far are regarding a possible lack of focus amid so much side content. The new chapter of the saga will follow Cloud and his group while they travel around the world, visiting several iconic locations such as Junon, Costa Del Sol, Gold Saucer, and Nibleheim.
