Summary

  • Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth received updates.
  • Both games got patches fixing DualSense vibration issues.

Square Enix has launched updates for both Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Both Final Fantasy 7 games received recent updates prior to this, and this one is addressing an issue that some players have recently made.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth's recent updates both added the ability to fast-forward through cutscenes, but also had some differences. For Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, version 1.070 fixed some character display issues on the PlayStation 5 Pro enhanced mode, while Final Fantasy 7 Remake added a Head Start function that gives players bonus money, and advanced levels, equipment, and materia.

Now, Final Fantasy 7 Remake has received an update for PS5 and PC, advancing the game to versions 1.003 and 1.005, respectively, while Rebirth is now at update 1.080. Both games received the same fix, a small patch solving the problem of DualSense wireless controllers' vibrations not working properly. Some players had noticed problems with their controllers not providing haptic feedback following some of the recent updates, so this appears to have amended that issue.

Final Fantasy 7 Players Want More Issues Addressed

The news that an update had launched was received with a mixed response at best. One player lamented that such a tiny patch had caused their game to reboot when it was paused on a fight overnight, resetting their progress. Several players on social media, however, took issue with the problems that are still being reported with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on PS5. The main complaint was that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth still looks blurry on the original PS5 when using Performance Mode. While the graphics did receive a patch previously, some players still want to see further improvements made, though the development team's focus is likely on the upcoming PC port.

While this new patch fixes a minor issue with both games, it's nice to see that Square Enix addressed it quickly. With any luck, the company can iron out any remaining issues before Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth launches on PC. Players have high expectations of the game after having waited for the PS5's exclusivity to end. While the blurry graphics problems reported likely won't be an issue for those with high-end PCs, some players are still irritated by the way the port of the FF7 Remake was handled. Players at launch noted that there were fewer graphical options than with other games, making it harder to fine-tune the experience. Unlike games that are already optimized to a console's capabilities, PC gamers use more in-depth controls to balance performance and visuals to their systems' exact specs. With any luck, these complaints will have been taken into account for FF7 Rebirth.
