Final Fantasy 7 Remake is getting new difficulty settings that could let players easily steamroll their way through the game. As many would've expected, the revamped, three-part take on the iconic RPG has been a smash hit for Square Enix, and now the company is trying to push it further by bringing it to new audiences and giving it some fresh features. Some of those Final Fantasy 7 Remake changes will let even inexperienced players break the game.
The original Final Fantasy 7 is one of the most revered titles in gaming history, and the first two parts of the reimagined version have reached impressive heights in their own right. After the success of the first installment, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth became one of the best-selling games of 2024, beating out the likes of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Tekken 8. As fans wait for the third and final part of the trilogy, Square Enix is expanding the series with newly supported consoles and a somewhat surprising new game mode.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade Switch 2 Release Date Finally Confirmed
Nintendo surprises players by confirming the upcoming release date for the highly anticipated title Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade on Switch 2.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake's Streamlined Progression Removes Difficulty to Focus on the Story
On September 12, Square Enix announced a new feature called Streamlined Progression coming to Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade on the Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox on PC versions of the game. The optional setting makes it so that players will never take damage, their MP, Limit gauge, and ATB gauge are always full, and their attacks always deal 9999 damage. According to the announcement, not all of these settings will apply in all situations, which likely refer to story events. Regardless of that admittedly small restriction, always having maximum health and dealing maximum damage will mean that even players entirely new to the Final Fantasy franchise can breeze through enemies to speed through the game. This announcement came at the same time that the studio confirmed the whole Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy would come to Xbox and Switch 2, so all players will be able to take advantage of it.
According Final Fantasy 7 Remake director Naoki Hamaguchi, Streamlined Progression is a way to let players focus on the game's story, regardless of their video game skill or experience. Hamaguchi explains that some people "want to be able to enjoy the battles and exploration more casually," so removing difficulty barriers from those aspects of gameplay makes the title more accessible to them. While Final Fantasy 7 Remake remains one of the hardest RPGs to 100% from its sheer range of collectibles, the new feature should help a wider audience finish the main story.
The announcement focuses on Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, but it sounds like Streamlined Progression will come to Rebirth and the third entry, too. Looking forward, Square Enix has an internal Final Fantasy Remake Part 3 release date in mind, so there could be news of the final installment before long.
