The original creator of Final Fantasy, Hironobu Sakaguchi, recently gave his high praises for the newest entry in the long-running RPG franchise, Final Fantasy 16. Since Sakaguchi helped to create the beloved series' first entry in 1987, Square Enix's flagship title has grown to become one of the most well-recognized juggernauts in gaming. The sixteenth main-series entry has reported similar success to its predecessors, already confirming 3 million units of the newest Final Fantasy had been sold within a month of its launch. Now, Final Fantasy's original creator has nothing but good things to say about the game.

Final Fantasy 16's popularity was apparent even from its release with fans and critics praising the game's story and characters early on. The newest Final Fantasy would boast the best retail launch of any PS5 game in Japan, even surpassing highly-anticipated juggernauts like Elden Ring and Hogwarts Legacy. Many would praise the game's story as a return to form for the franchise, shifting into a more traditional fantasy setting after the modernized Final Fantasy 15. Now, Final Fantasy's original creator has sung the praises of Final Fantasty 16 after finishing the game.

A recent post from Sakaguchi had revealed the creator of the original Final Fantasy has completed Final Fantasy 16 as of earlier this week. Within the brief but glowing review of the game, he would refer to Final Fantasy 16 as the "ultimate" Final Fantasy game following his personal completion of Final Fantasy 16. Sakaguchi worked with Square Enix for twenty years and served as director for the first five Final Fantasy games, continuing to serve in an executive position with the series until Final Fantasy 10-2 in 2003. Sakaguchi would leave Square Enix in 2003 and later start his own independent studio, Mistwalker.

While Hironobu Sakaguchi would leave the company that saw his rise to fame two decades ago, his name has not been far from the gaming industry. Sakaguchi's development studio, Mistwalker, would help to create the beloved Blue Dragon JRPG franchise, partnering with famed Dragon Ball artist Akira Toriyama. Mistwalker would also produce one of Apple Arcade's most highly-touted games in Fantasian, now rumored to be coming to Steam.

Final Fantasy 16's early success has led many fans to look towards the game's future, speculating that DLC may eventually arrive for the game. A recent interview with Yoshi-P hinted at the potential introduction of a DLC chapter for fan-favorite Final Fantasy mainstay Cid. Character-focused DLC for Final Fantasy 16 would follow in the footsteps of Final Fantasy 15, which would release four different DLC stories for Prompto, Gladiolus, Ignis, and Ardyn. Final Fantasy 16 looks to have a prosperous future ahead with even Final Fantasy franchise legends singing its praises.

Final Fantasy 16 is available now exclusively for PS5.
