Final Fantasy Tactics - The Ivalice Chronicles boasts one of the best job systems to ever grace a video game, but it can take a bit of getting used to. Most of the jobs are fairly self-explanatory, and figuring out how to play into their strengths and weaknesses is pretty intuitive for the most part, but this isn't really the case when it comes to healing and using items.
The 12 Best Final Fantasy Games, Ranked
The best Final Fantasy games have influenced countless titles over the years and have also left an indelible mark on many of those who played them.
Players can give the Items command to any of their units via the Equipment menu, but doing so won't necessarily allow them to use items in battle. This can make healing in Final Fantasy Tactics - The Ivalice Chronicles a little confusing to begin with and will likely lead to a fair amount of frustration for those who never played the 1997 original or the 2007 enhanced port.
How to Use Items in Final Fantasy Tactics - The Ivalice Chronicles
In order to use items in Final Fantasy Tactics, players will either need to be using the Chemist job or have equipped the Items command in the second slot of the Equipment menu. They'll also need to unlock the associated ability for the item that they want to use, which will require JP or Job Points. The Potion ability will cost them 30 JP, with stronger potions and other healing items requiring more. This includes the Phoenix Down ability, which requires 90 JP and can be used to revive fallen units in battle.
How to Heal in Final Fantasy Tactics - The Ivalice Chronicles
To begin with, using items is the best way to heal injured units, but as they progress through the game, players will unlock a few other options. After getting the Chemist job to Level 2, they'll gain access to White Mage, which will allow them to use healing magic. Getting Knight to Level 3 will unlock the Monk Job, which boasts powerful restorative abilities like Chakra and Revive. As with items, though, players will need to unlock each individual ability using JP before they can use it in battle.
