The Five Nights at Freddy's ( FNAF) film franchise is based on Scott Cawthon's popular video game of the same name. It follows Mike Schmidt (Josh Hutcherson), a troubled security guard who begins working at the abandoned Freddy Fazbear's Pizza and discovers that the animatronic mascots harbor sinister secrets. The first movie achieved remarkable box office success after making $297 million globally with just a $20 million production budget. No wonder Blum's Blumhouse Pictures immediately greenlit the second film. The anticipated sequel is coming out later this year and Blum shares a promising update that will surely satisfy fans.

Blum appeared at the CCXP Mexico and shared an update about FNaF 2. According to him, they heard the fans' complaints in the first film, and they would address that in the sequel. "[W]e took lots of the criticism saying it was not scary, lacked blood or strong scenes, we decided to implement all that in the sequel," he said (via Deducer on X, formerly Twitter). His statement got fans excited, with one saying that taking this route would be a big upgrade. Many also expressed excitement about a bloody version of FNaF 2 because it enforces visual pain and a strong element of horror. However, while others agreed to level up the violence and spook factor, they hoped that it would still maintain the charm of the first Five Nights at Freddy's movie. Meanwhile, one said that the problem with the first film was actually not the lack of blood or gore scenes but the poor writing and lack of artistic direction. Some agreed because they felt that the film wasn't connected to the game.

Blum isn't the first person involved in Five Nights at Freddy's 2 to share that they will address the criticisms from the first film. Matthew Lillard, who plays the big bad William Afton, teased that "the storytelling's been amped up." The Scream 7 star said Cawthon listened to the audience and picked up what he needed to learn from the first movie. Many were disappointed with the first film because they found the pacing slow and the horror elements light. However, per Lillard, FNaF 2 has "more jump scares" and "a little more action-packed."

Cawthon previously shared screenplay pages for the film to mark the FNAF video game's 10th anniversary. However, it was with a twist — he shared four pages, but only one would make it to the big screen. Regardless of the version, the scripts were promising.
