Ed Greenwood is teaming up with Mythmakers to create a new Dungeons and Dragons book series called RealmsBound, which will delve into the many corners of the Forgotten Realms. Starting with four books detailing the Dalelands in 2026, this project will visit a new region of this popular Dungeons and Dragons setting in extraordinary detail every year.

The Forgotten Realms is one of the most iconic settings in Dungeons and Dragons. From the reaches of Icewind Dale to the metropolis of Waterdeep and beyond, the continent of Faerun on the world of Toril has been the setting of many adventure paths, books, games, and movies, including Tyranny of Dragons, The Legend of Drizzt, Baldur’s Gate 3, Neverwinter, and Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. It even recently received a pair of new D&D books in the form of Forgotten Realms: Adventures in Faerun and Heroes of Faerun.

Ed Greenwood’s RealmsBound Forgotten Realms D&D Books

Now, the mind behind the Forgotten Realms has announced a new saga of Dungeons and Dragons books that will explore even more corners of Faerun. Ed Greenwood, the creator of the Forgotten Realms D&D setting, has officially announced a multi-year partnership with Mythmakers Studio in order to create RealmsBound, a new interconnected series of books exploring Faerun and beyond. Each year, RealmsBound will tackle a different region of the Forgotten Realms, with the first four books coming out in 2026 detailing the Dalelands.

  • Guide to the Dalelands
  • Inn Sites of the Dalelands
  • Delves of the Dalelands
  • Adventures in the Dalelands

The Dalelands are one of the first regions of the world of Faerun that Greenwood developed. A loose confederation of small towns, the Dalelands are known for being the birthplace of many historical figures of the Forgotten Realms, including Elminster – the Sage of Shadowdale of BG3 fame who shares a physical likeness with Greenwood – Storm and Anastra Sylune Silverhand, Jander Sunstar, and Midnight, better known as the newest Goddess of Magic, Mystra.

Greenwood began writing about the Forgotten Realms as a child in the 1960s. He later used it as a setting for his D&D campaigns, published it in The Dragon magazine, and eventually sold rights to the setting to TSR for $5,000 and the promise to publish his novels.

The Forgotten Realms and Faerun are just one corner of the world of Toril, meaning there are countless other regions Greenwood could explore in future volumes. From the kingdom of Cormyr or the jungles of Chult to the Red Wizards’ homeland of Thay or the eastern continent of Kara-Tur, fans will have to wait and see where RealmsBound will go next. In the meantime, D&D is about to explore the setting of Eberron in Eberron: Forge of the Artificer, available now for D&D Beyond Master Tier subscribers, with its public launch on December 9.
