The film has been met with overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics and fans alike who have already seen it, which has built excitement levels for many people.

Superman Test Screening Reactions Draw Comparisons To One Of the Most Well-Received DCEU Movies

Superman is finally in the test screening stage, and it has been compared to a previous DCEU mega-blockbuster.

One of those is actor Dean Cain, who is a beloved figure within the wider Superman fandom. He played the role of Clark Kent in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman from 1993 to 1997, being someone who has a firm understanding of the Man of Steel, and how he would prefer the character to look and feel. However, he was not left impressed by what he saw from the latest Superman movie, and he criticized what Gunn has done with the iconic character when speaking to TMZ.

“How woke is Hollywood going to make this character? How much is Disney going to change their Snow White? Why are they going to change these characters [to] exist for the times? For Superman, it was ‘truth, justice, and the American way.’ Well, they dropped that… They came up with ‘truth, justice, and a better tomorrow.’ Changing beloved characters I don’t think is a great idea. If you want to create a new character go ahead and do that.”

Cain made it clear that he thinks Gunn's comments regarding Superman being an immigrant will have a negative impact on its box office numbers. Still, early projections seem to suggest the opposite. Superman is having terrific word of mouth right now, and if that continues throughout the weekend, then this movie could end up being the ideal start to Gunn's era in charge of DC's movie output. Of course, there are always going to be some people who think like Cain regarding what Gunn said, and that could turn them off viewing the movie. However, the broader public is simply looking to enjoy a classic superhero movie with one of pop culture's most recognizable characters.

Gunn's comments are his personal beliefs about the character, and that's something that he's more than entitled to, with the same sentiment being shared by those who disagree. However, the movie itself doesn't push Superman in a woke direction in any sense, with the focus simply being on a great action story that ticks the classic blockbuster box for this summer. David Corenswet has brought Superman to life in a unique way that features plenty of lighthearted humor, and despite some concerns about that idea, it's something that has ended up paying off with a movie that people are likely to enjoy.

While Gunn and the rest of the team involved in making this movie will have to wait until the end of the weekend to see how it has performed, and whether or not Gunn's beliefs about Superman will end up having a negative impact on it. Cain is someone who won't be flying the flag for its success, despite his links to the franchise, but Superman still has all the potential to be a blockbuster hit this summer, due to the early reviews.
