Square Enix and Luminous Productions showed off an action-packed new trailer for Forspoken to kick off this year's TGS. For the first time in a couple of years, Tokyo Game Show is allowing fans to attend the event physically, meaning there have been some big expectations from the gaming community about one of Japan's biggest video game shows. The Tokyo Game Show 2022 schedule looked to be packed with important streams from big publishers and developers such as Bandai Namco, Square Enix, and Capcom, just to name a few.
Now, as one of the first trailers for a big release to be shown at the event, gamers are getting another look at Forspoken. The open-world, action adventure title centers around Frey, a young woman who lives an ordinary life in New York. However, things quickly take a turn from the ordinary to the extraordinary in Frey's life as she is transported to the magical land of Athia and charged with saving it from its corruption.
It seems that this narrative is the focus of Forspoken's new trailer. The new footage runs for about two minutes and does not yet have an English version. However, there are some key details around Forspoken's story and gameplay that can still be gleaned from it. In the first few seconds of the trailer, fans get a closer look at a couple of Forspoken's dragons. While it isn't exactly clear what side the dragons are on in the game, it is likely Frey will have to take on at least one as they can be seen soaring above the corrupted areas of Athia.
It seems the ideas around this corruption are what the new trailer mainly revolves around, as Frey is accused by the people of Athia of bringing the darkness to their lands. Through multiple scenes with different leaders and NPCs in Forspoken's world, it appears that Frey does not have an easy time making friends in her new home, as she is even accused of furthering the corruption that has taken hold of Athia. However, there are a few who believe that Frey and her magical bracelet Cuff might be of use in Forspoken.
It was already inferred that Frey would be up against some of Forspoken's authority figures in the game, but through this new TGS trailer, fans can see how that relationship could develop over the course of the story. It seems Frey is out to prove herself to those who believe she is causing Athia's corruption, and it appears only by stopping the curse can she make herself innocent.
Forspoken is scheduled to release on January 24, 2023, on PC and PS5.
