In a game filled with mysterious occurrences, yet another strange event is happening right now in Fortnite. Players have begun noticing puddles all over the map. The reason these small pools of water have suddenly started appearing and their purpose is, at the moment, a mystery.
Whenever something unexplained happens in Fortnite, especially noticeable alterations to the game's map, it is an indicator that changes are on the horizon, that the developers are teasing new, upcoming content. With various puddles now dotting the landscape, players know that Epic Games is teasing something fresh around the corner. Posts like those from Reddit user natekit- have presented evidence of this incident for those who may not have seen it themselves.
Players could patiently wait to see what these puddles mean, but that wouldn't be any fun. There is plenty of speculation as to what the developer is hinting at, but the most likely scenario is that the island will soon be flooded, which has been speculated to be occurring as far back as February. After a couple of recent Season 3 leaks that suggest the game is going in a more aqua-based direction, this theory might just hold water, so to speak.
One leak says a new Aquaman skin will be added to the game, which perfectly fits the theme, as well as rideable sharks. Fortnite has added comic book content in the past, with a heavy focus on Marvel characters lately. With Aquaman, the game is pulling once again from DC comics, and the leak suggests more heroes from that universe will be available through a new Battle Pass.
To add more fuel to the fire, back in April, another dataminer leaked in-game animations that suggest an underwater swimming feature will be added in the future. If the island becomes flooded, that ability would certainly come in handy. Fortnite already added a swimming mechanic at the start of Chapter 2, so this would take the water-centric season to its next, logical step.
With the next major update expected to drop on June 4, players will get their answers soon. That is still a month away, so the community can expect more teasers, possibly in the form of a trailer or two, in the coming weeks.
