Fortnite was already a unique experience when it first launched back in July of 2017. It put the classic Battle Royale genre back in the spotlight of gaming, leading to many other games trying their hand at the formula since. One thing that has helped Fortnite remain fresh for as long as it has is the implementation of seasons.
Fortnite: Ranking The 10 Best Twists In The Game
Fortnite is one of the most popular battle royales out there, and astounding events and twists in the game have players coming back for more.
Each season allows players to unlock special items in a Battle Pass, play different kinds of limited-time game modes, and bring new map changes that can really affect how games are played. There have been 34 full seasons, two OG seasons, and one mini-season, with each one having a huge impact on the game. Some of them have been a lot more memorable than others, though.
Chapter 6 Season 4
Shock 'N Awesome
- Period: August 7, 2025 - November 1, 2025
- Duration: 86 days
- Theme: Bug swarms, insect queens, invasion
- New Locations: Dystopia City, O.X.R. HQ, Ranger's Ruin, Bugswatter Beach, Creepy Camps, Gourdy Gate, Viney Shaft, Ranger's Rest, Dreamy Domain, Pumpkin Pass, Freaky Fields, The Hive,
While Fortnite Shock 'N Awesome introduced a lot of new content for players to explore, such as infested outposts, bug swarms and nests, weapons for bug extermination, and all sorts of new named locations, it didn't particularly bring any exciting features compared to previous seasons.
The bug swarm appeared almost out of nowhere; there was little relation between them and the storyline at the end of Chapter 6 Season 3, and they felt like a nuance for the most part. Unfortunately, Shock 'N Awesome fell short compared to previous Fortnite seasons.
Chapter 2 Season 8
Cubed
- Period: September 13, 2021 - December 4, 2021
- Duration: 82 days
- Theme: Cube Corruption
- New Locations: Corny Crops and The Convergence
Chapter 2 Season 8 was the last season of the second Fortnite chapter. It had some interesting concepts, such as The Mothership; it introduced gamers to the iconic Fabio Sparklemane had Carnage as part of its Battle Pass, but despite this, it can be considered somewhat unmemorable when compared to some more exciting or nostalgic-riddled seasons.
Chapter 4 Season 3
Fortnite Wilds
- Period: June 9, 2023 - August 25, 2023
- Duration: 76 days
- Theme: Jungle
- New Locations: Rumble Ruins, Creeky Compound, Shady Stilts
Fortnite: All Chapter 4 Season 3 Battle Pass Skins
Fortnite's Chapter 4 Season 3 has eight different skins ready to be unlocked - here's how to get all of them.
Fortnite WILDS brought a lot of interesting concepts to the table, but it just wasn't as captivating as it could've been, so it ended up being rather forgettable. It was released once the MEGA Season came to an end, so after such a chaotic and fun season, it fell short of some fans' expectations. However, it did introduce players to the jungle biome as well as mud, an interesting new gameplay mechanic, and it added lots of fun temples filled with loot ready to be explored.
Chapter 6 Season 3
SUPER
- Period: June 7, 2025 - August 7, 2025
- Duration: 61 days
- Theme: Superheroes
- New Locations: Supernova Academy, Utopia City, Demon's Domain
Chapter 6 Season 3 was all about superheroes. Many of this season's Story Quests took place at Supernova Academy, which is where they were trained to become the best. The season featured several items that gave players special powers and abilities.
Superman was the face of the season. He became available as the season's bonus skin, and when the skin was finally released, he also brought a very powerful mythic, which made it possible for players to fly around the island, shoot lasers from their eyes, and use his super-strength to punch enemy players into oblivion.
Chapter 5 Season 3
Wrecked
- Period: May 24, 2024 - August 15, 2024
- Duration: 83 days
- Theme: Car-dominated Wasteland
- New Locations: Brutal Beachhead, Sandy Steppes, Megalo Depot, Redline Rig, Nitrodrome
Fortnite Wrecked gave fans some serious Mad Max vibes when it was first released, which got many of them excited. However, once it actually started, it became clear that the vehicles were overpowered, which made it difficult to counter them at all. So, those who didn't have a highly modded car knew that they would be eliminated if they came across one.
This made it feel like it was mandatory to immediately find a car and the best modifications for it. Epic Games tried nerfing vehicles and adding counters, such as the Heavy Impact Sniper, but it wasn't enough to balance the game. It wasn't all bad - Chapter 5 Season 3 did introduce cool elements, such as nitro-infused items and the Slurp Cactus. The addition of Wastelander Challenges was also a fun way to get more XP.
Galactic Battle
Chapter 6 Mini Season
- Period: May 2, 2025 - June 7, 2025
- Duration: 37 days
- Theme: Star Wars
- New Locations: First Order Base, Vader Samurai's Solitude, Resistance Base, Outpost Enclave
Galactic Battle was the first official mini-season in Fortnite. At first, gamers were quite excited to get a Star Wars mini-season throughout the entire month of May, but the lack of fun updates made it stale pretty fast for some fans.
While a lot of content was added when the season came out, gamers played through all of it within the first couple of days and then were left waiting for another update for two whole weeks. Considering that the season only lasted about five weeks, it meant they had to wait half of the season for more excitement. Either way, it was a fun way to break from the routine, but the stream of content could've been distributed differently.
Chapter 1 Season X
Out of Time
- Period: August 1, 2019 - October 13, 2019
- Duration: 74 days
- Theme: Time
- New Locations: Dusty Depot, Gotham City, Greasy Grove, Moisty Palms, Pandora, Retail Row, Starry Suburbs, The Cube, The Meteor, and Tilted Town
Though the black hole climax was undeniably epic and the return of some fan-favorite locations was a nice touch, Season X of Fortnite just didn't offer up nearly enough new content to keep the game feeling fresh. There were hardly any new cosmetics in the battle pass, with players instead having to make do with upgraded skins from Season 9. The changes made to gameplay weren't bad, per se, but the sheer volume of them was perhaps a little overwhelming to some players.
Chapter 5 Season 2
Myths & Mortals
- Period: March 8, 2024 - May 24, 2024
- Duration: 76 days
- Theme: Ancient Greek mythology
- New Locations: Mount Olympus, Brawler's Battleground, Restored Reels, Grim Gate, The Underworld
There is no doubt that Chapter 5 Season 2 had one of the most anticipated and interesting season themes to date. However, it could've been better executed. Even though gamers were excited to see awesome gods, goddesses, legendary creatures, and even items from known ancient Greek myths, it ended up being overshadowed by excessive collaborations.
When the Avatar event was released, seasonal items, such as the Wings of Icarus, the Thunderbolt of Zeus, and the Chains of Hades, were vaulted for two weeks. Then, when it ended, the Star Wars event went live. When all of it was over, the season was a few days away from ending. On top of this, the overpowered Waterbending technique remained in the game, which caused quite a lot of discontent from the community.
Chapter 6 Season 1
Hunters
- Period: December 1, 2024 - February 21, 2025
- Duration: 83 days
- Theme: Japanese Demons and Warriors
- New Locations: Whiffy Wharf, Flooded Frogs, Magic Mosses, Pumped Power, Demon's Dojo, Lost Lake, Brutal Boxcars, Twinkle Terrace, Nightshift Forest, Warrior's Watch, Foxy Floodgate, Shining Span, Seaport City, Masked Meadows, Burd, Canyon Crossing, Shogun's Solited, Hopeful Heights, Kappa Kappa Factory, The Great Turtle
Fortnite Hunters had the advantage of being the first season of a brand-new chapter, which always has fans more excited than usual. On top of that, it had an interesting theme that coincided with MEGA Season, but not enough to bother fans.
Unfortunately, it provided a weak start to a chapter, as its story fell short. The characters and the storyline behind them felt bland. On top of that, the quests were long, repetitive, and a real nuisance to complete. Players had to go back and forth to talk to NPCs or eliminate enemies. And, in the case of the latter, most of the time, there weren't enough demon enemies for everyone on the map, which ruined the fun and made some fans lose interest in the story altogether.
Chapter 2 Season 1
A New World
- Period: October 15, 2019 - February, 2020
- Duration: 128 days
- Theme: New Beginnings
- New Locations: Craggy Cliffs, Dirty Docks, Frenzy Farm, Holly Hedges, Lazy Lake, Misty Meadows, Steamy Stacks, Slurpy Swamp, Sweaty Sands, and Weeping Woods
After a couple of days of downtime, Fortnite returned with a brand new map and the longest season to date. Sadly, like Season X, the first season of Chapter 2 was a little underwhelming, with very few updates coming throughout the season.
The addition of boats and fishing was kind of cool, as was the harpoon, but many fans were expecting a little more after the epic conclusion of Chapter 1.
