One of the most appealing aspects of Fortnite is its crossovers with many well-known properties. Skins based on popular movies, TV shows, and video game series are all represented in Fortnite, resulting in gaming’s most eclectic cast of playable characters ever. As chaotic as the game’s current collabs can be, there are always more opportunities for skins to surprise players.

Like with many other video game franchises, the Borderlands series already has some representation in Fortnite with the Psycho Bandit skin. This might not be the end of this crossover, however. A leak has revealed another Borderlands character could make their playable debut in Fortnite very soon - Mad Moxxi - and this could be the perfect setup for her addition as a DLC Vault Hunter in Borderlands 4.

A prominent Fortnite leaker surprises players by revealing that another Borderlands crossover could be coming to Epic Games' popular battle royale.

Mad Moxxi Fortnite Skin Leak

Trustworthy leakers iFireMonkey and Shiina revealed that Borderlands’ Mad Moxxi will be added to the Fortnite Item Shop, making her playable for the first time. This wouldn’t be the first time that Fortnite has beaten a video game series to the punch by making an NPC playable, such as with the Exo-Stranger skin representing Destiny and Cyberpunk 2077’s Johnny Silverhand. Adding Moxxi as a playable skin is a great incentive for Borderlands fans, and could test the waters for her playable status in the series’ future.

All leaks should be taken with a pinch of salt, but this one does have some credibility to it. As well as the leakers being reliable sources, the long-awaited return of the Borderlands Psycho Bandit skin in Fortnite makes the leak much more likely. The skin didn’t appear in the Item Shop for almost five years, finally returning on April 29, 2025. Since then, the Psycho Bandit skin has made frequent appearances in the Item Shop.

The Psycho Bandit Fortnite Skin first appeared in the Item Shop on August 27, 2019.

Considering how often the Borderlands collab keeps appearing in Fortnite recently, it wouldn’t be out of the question for more skins to be available as part of this crossover soon. As one of Borderlands’ best characters, Moxxi would be a great addition to Fortnite and the perfect choice to promote the upcoming Borderlands 4.

Playable Moxxi in Fortnite Could Set Her Up for BL4

Despite appearing in every mainline game in the series and receiving three Borderlands DLC campaigns based around her, Moxxi still hasn’t been playable in any of the games. She is a crucial part of the franchise’s identity, and while her playable status in Fortnite is likely to be very rewarding for fans of the Borderlands series, the best way to honor Moxxi’s legacy could be to include her as a playable Vault Hunter.

Borderlands 4 has already established its main cast of playable characters, but there are always opportunities for more. It has already been confirmed that Borderlands 4 will have DLC Vault Hunters, but who these are specifically remains a mystery for now. It’s possible that these could be completely original characters making their series debut in Borderlands 4, but there’s always the chance that an NPC from the series’ past could take on a playable role as DLC. Since Moxxi is a fan-favorite character, it could be the best decision to upgrade her to a playable status.

Throughout the Borderlands series, players learn more about Moxxi’s past, with one of her traits being that she is skilled in combat. However, this aspect of the character is rarely seen in-game. Her potential addition to Fortnite finally gives Moxxi a more active combative role, but Borderlands 4 could take this further. By making Moxxi one of Borderlands 4’s DLC Vault Hunters, the violent side of the character can finally be brought forward, showing players a version of her that they have yet to see throughout the series.

Borderlands 4 brings back two Vault Hunters from the last game, but a quiet franchise tradition suggests one of them may not survive this time.

More Fortnite Borderlands Skins Could Be Added

With the hints that Moxxi will be added to Fortnite, it wouldn’t be unlikely for more Borderlands characters to be included too. The series has many iconic characters to choose from, but very few are as memorable as Borderlands’ previous Vault Hunters. After playing as these characters throughout the games, it is easy for players to grow fond of them and their individual personalities. If Fortnite is looking to make its collab with Borderlands even more appealing to fans, adding characters like Lilith and Zane could be worthwhile.

This could also be used as an opportunity to promote Borderlands 4’s existing Vault Hunters. Each of the game’s playable characters could be added to Fortnite prior to the release of Borderlands 4, getting players used to the cast before committing to one choice in BL4. Though the Borderlands skins in Fortnite won’t have anywhere near as many abilities as they do in Borderlands 4, it could still be an incentive for players to use the new characters early.

As Moxxi’s possible Fortnite inclusion would make her playable for the first time, other Borderlands NPCs could get the same treatment. Handsome Jack is easily Borderlands’ best villain, and is arguably one of the best in all of gaming. Though his doppelganger was one of the Vault Hunters in The Pre-Sequel, Handsome Jack himself was not playable. While it is very unlikely that he will return to the Borderlands series, a skin in Fortnite is not out of the question, and could be the best way to let players play as the "real" version of the iconic villain.

Borderlands collaborating with Fortnite again is great for fans of both games, but the potential addition of Moxxi as a Fortnite skin could be hinting at something more. Giving Moxxi a playable role feels as though it could be leading up to her being on of Borderlands 4 DLC Vault Hunters. Her appearance in Fortnite may be enough for some fans, but giving the character her own abilities and skill trees in Borderlands 4 is something that the battle royale cannot match. Until the DLC Vault Hunters are revealed, though, players can enjoy the Psycho Bandit skin in Fortnite, and may possibly be able to look forward to the arrival of Moxxi soon.
