Fortnite is undoubtedly one of the most popular battle royale games available. This is in part because of its free-to-play strategy and its building mechanics, but the game is also marketed effectively. A key part in the marketing of Fortnite is crossover events with comic book, film, and musical stars. This looks set to continue as the game introduces the Captain America skin to celebrate July 4.

The battle royale game has brought in exclusive content with several franchises and despite some criticism directed at Fortnite, this seems to be a successful tactic to keep the game fresh. Furthermore, with events and challenges tied in with new skins, there is added incentive to play the title to unlock the content. Many will now be interested to see how they get their hands on one of the most popular Avengers, Captain America.

The Captain America skin is available now and in a post-Fortnite describes his "indestructible shield and iron will" which will have many fans wanting to test just how good the shield is. The trailer builds excitement with the sun rising and Captain America thrillingly leaping through the terrain and it seems to have the desired effect. The announcement prompted some friendly competition from the likes of KFC and their bucket head skin, but the vast majority of responses were very positive. It seems that the developer behind Fortnite, Epic Games, has struck the right tone with this new crossover event which combines a superhero and American patriotism on July 4.

Alongside the addition of Captain America, Fortnite has been transforming its map by flooding it and many expect when the water recedes that it will be changed. It seems that Epic Games has plenty of ideas of how to keep players engaged and frequent content seems to please a large player base. However, there have been certain players who believe that the game has delved too far into commercial crossovers and lost the original spirit that made it special to begin with.

It will be interesting to see if the addition of Captain America and the challenges that will accompany the skin manages to draw in more players. The initial outlook is positive, but there will also be players who want a stripped-back Fortnite  which is more reminiscent of its early state.

Fortnite is currently available to play now on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
