A leak has revealed that Disney sidekicks are coming to Fortnite and that it could be a way for the company to add previously unlikely characters to the Battle Royale game. Fortnite introduced pets back in Chapter 1 Season 6. Bonesy was the first pet to make an appearance in Fortnite; he became available on the second page of the Season 6 Battle Pass. After this, a few other pets were added, but eventually, this type of cosmetic seemed to disappear completely.
In Chapter 1, pets were classed as back blings. For example, gamers could equip Bonesy in the back bling section of their in-game Locker and wear an animal holder on their backs with the select pet. Other players would be able to pet them, and they would react to certain aspects of gameplay. Overall, they were a fun addition to the game, so players were sad to see that they were put on the back burner. That is why when companions were leaked in Fortnite, players were excited to learn more about them.

Leak Suggests that Disney Sidekicks Could Be Coming to Fortnite Soon
On October 30, Fortnite revealed the launch of sidekicks, previously dubbed companions. Epic Games announced that they would be introduced to Fortnite in the upcoming mini-season. Since then, more information has surfaced regarding sidekicks. According to NotPalo, a known dataminer in the community, Disney sidekicks are also coming to the Battle Royale, but this could mean something bigger: bringing Disney characters to Fortnite as sidekicks makes it possible for the company to add characters that they don't want holding guns.
There are family-friendly franchises and characters that Disney might want to bring to Fortnite, but wouldn't want them to wield a weapon, as it would be considered inappropriate. For example, Winnie the Pooh is a wholesome Disney character, and it would be outrageous to see the adorable, honey-loving bear holding a shotgun trying to get a Victory Royale in Fortnite. Therefore, Pooh would be better as a sidekick, as he would simply run alongside the player while keeping them company and cheering them on.
Disney has a wide array of characters to choose from, and it owns franchises with various PEGI age ratings. With sidekicks, players could have the opportunity to own more of their favorite characters in Fortnite, even if they can't wear them as a character skin. Once sidekicks become available and Disney announces their first sidekicks, more details will surely be revealed regarding the type of crossovers that may be a possibility with this new type of cosmetic.
