Fortnite has already pitted players against plenty of giant opponents, and now the infamous Godzilla is set to rampage across the Island later this week. Epic’s highly successful multiplayer online battle royale has played home to numerous crossovers, allowing fans to unlock special Fortnite character skins themed after the likes of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Wonder Woman, and even the popular Vocaloid Hatsune Miku.

Fortnite is adding the iconic Japanese cinematic monster Godzilla to its growing list of guest characters as part of Chapter 6 Season 1, with a playable skin based on his supercharged Evolved appearance from last year’s Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire being made available on January 17. The King of the Monster’s impending Fortnite debut has already sparked plenty of discussion about which other famous Godzilla designs could be added as skins later on, as well as jokes about how Fortnite is quickly becoming the video game version of the Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny.

Virtual pop sensation Hatsune Miku is set to make her official Fortnite debut, with multiple skins for the character appearing online.

As any Godzilla fan will know, it is only a matter of time before the reptilian behemoth decides to stop playing along and go on another destructive rampage, and the world of Fortnite is about to experience his fury later this week. As reported by Dexerto, version 33.20 for Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 1 will be launched on January 14. No official start time has been revealed, but Epic will likely start its server downtime at 4 AM PT, 7 AM ET, and 12 PM GMT in preparation for the update.

Much of the new content in this update will reportedly be centered around the Monsterverse, with footage of a giant-sized Godzilla stomping around the Fortnite game world being included in a recently shared trailer. Godzilla might not be the only Kaiju on the Island either, as a decal referencing King Kong can be briefly seen on a passing car. There have already been rumors of Kong joining his longtime nemesis as a Fortnite boss during Chapter 6 in the wake of Season 1’s already-confirmed Godzilla crossover.

Fortnite has already seen plenty of devastation from the likes of Galactus, Doctor Doom, and The Nothing over the years, and now it seems like players will need to prepare themselves for another calamity courtesy of Godzilla later this week. Once the rubble clears, fans could see even more TMNT characters join the game in the coming year, as well as a much-hoped-for Fortnite crossover with Devil May Cry.
