Fortnite's original, Save the World, launched in July 2017. And it wasn't until a couple of months later that Battle Royale became a major part of Fortnite. Epic Games had no idea how this game mode would catch the attention of many people around the globe. September 2017 was a huge turning point for Fortnite, and that is why every year, Epic celebrates this date with fans.
Fortnite 'Stage of An Unforgettable Era' Instagram Code Guide
Discover the secret code to unlock the Fortnite x Daft Punk event teaser on Instagram.
The annual birthday event is now live in Fortnite; players can complete quests, earn XP to level up their accounts, and unlock free items that most likely won't return. This guide tells players what they need to know about the Birthday Quests in Fortnite, including how to complete them.
How to Complete Birthday Quests in Fortnite
Wish the Bus Driver a Happy Birthday
When players start a match in Fortnite, they can thank the bus driver before they hop off. During the birthday event, they can wish them a happy birthday instead. To wish the bus driver a happy birthday in Fortnite, players have to press the emote button before they jump off the bus at the start of the game.
Search Containers Before Damaging a Single Player in a Match (8)
Players will have to search a total of eight containers in a single match before damaging an enemy player. This means that, before players inflict any type of damage on another player, they must open eight containers.
Thankfully, the quest description makes it clear that it is any type of container. Chests can be harder to find, so opening ammo chests and any other chest will count towards quest progress, such as ammo chests, rare chests, and O.X.R. Chests.
Dance by a Birthday Cake Found at Named Locations
There are birthday cakes scattered around the Battle Royale maps, both at named locations and landmarks. To complete this quest, players have to approach a birthday cake in Fortnite and emote near it.
Throw Birthday Presents! (3)
During the birthday event, players will find Birthday Presents while looking for loot. These Legendary-rarity items have rare loot and birthday-themed items inside. To open a birthday present in Fortnite, players have to pick it up and then throw it - either at their feet so they'll find themselves inside right away or throw it far away and break the side of the present to get inside.
Ascend to 80 Meters Using Balloons
Players can find balloons as floor loot or inside chest containers during the birthday event. They can put up to three balloons on their back. One balloon isn't enough to get their character to ascend high into the sky, but that changes as they equip more. Gamers can put three balloons on their back and quickly ascend to 80 meters to complete this quest. However, to avoid falling to their death, they must keep one attached to them so they can safely descend.
Eat Slices of Birthday Cake Found at Named Locations (8)
Players can eat birthday cake slices in Fortnite to restore their HP and Shields. Each slice grants them 10 HP and 10 Shields, so gamers should be able to easily complete this quest in one go. At the start of the match, players can land near a birthday cake, and since they won't have full Shields then, they can consume the required number of slices without maxing out their health.
Birthday Quest Rewards in Fortnite
Each Birthday Quest in Fortnite is worth 5,000 XP. There are six Birthday Quests this year, so players can earn up to 30,000 XP for completing them all - a help for those trying to complete the Battle Pass before the end of Chapter 6 Season 4.
On top of this, there are limited-time birthday event rewards that they can earn. To unlock Birthday Quest Bonus Goals rewards, players have to earn account levels during the event:
- You're 8! Spray - earn two account levels
- Anniversary Axe pickaxe - earn four account levels
- Slurpfinity Cake back bling - earn six account levels
The 2025 Fortnite birthday event will be live until September 30 at 9 AM ET, which means gamers have until then to complete as many quests as they can and claim these freebies.
While Fortnite items are not exclusive to events and can return to the shop at a later date, that most likely won't be the case, as there is no reason to bring back cosmetics with the number 8 on them. So, gamers will want to grab these items while they can.
