Fortnite has had emotes from the very start, and it is one of the main features to define the game. "Fortnite dances" went viral thanks to the popularity of certain emotes. However, some fans might consider that they are done in poor taste during or after in-game combat. On April 23, 2024, when update v29.30 went live so did the Confrontational Emotes feature.

What Are Confrontational Emotes in Fortnite?

There are hundreds of dances in Fortnite, and while some are goofy and promote sportsmanship, others are used to provoke players mid-combat or to taunt them after eliminating them. This can evoke several negative feelings, causing them to have a bad time playing instead of finding pleasure in a fun experience.

When Epic Games introduced the Confrontational Emotes option to Fortnite it applied to the following emotes:

  • Laugh It Up
  • Take the L
  • Whipcrack
  • Make It Plantain

The reason why these emotes were chosen is because they have made Fortnite less enjoyable for some members of the community. With the Confrontational Emote setting, gamers can decide if they'd like to see other players doing these options or if they'd rather block them from their game.

If gamers remove Confrontational Emotes from their game, whenever someone performs one of the emotes mentioned above, the player will only see their character standing still - they won't see any movement or hear any sounds.

How to Modify Confrontational Emote Settings

The Confrontational Emote setting became available on April 23, 2024, and once it came out, it was automatically set to "From Friends in Party" for every, which means, gamers who don't change this will only be able to see confrontational emotes from their squadmates.

There are three Confrontational Emote options in Fortnite:

  • "From Anyone" - players will be able to see anyone perform Confrontational Emotes
  • "From Friends in Party" - players will only be able to see their squadmates perform Confrontational Emotes
  • "Never" - players won't be able to see anyone perform Confrontational Emotes

To change Confrontational Emote settings in Fortnite, gamers have to open the Settings menu, go to the Account and Privacy tab, and modify the See Confrontational Emotes option in the Social Privacy section. Here is a video demonstrating how to do it:
