Summary

  • Fortnite is expected to return to iOS devices by the end of the week.
  • A long legal battle has kept the game from returning to Apple devices for nearly five years.
  • It's unclear whether impacted players will receive any compensation for the interruption from Epic Games.

Fortnite could appear on iOS devices sooner than expected, according to new information provided by Epic Games. In 2020, Fortnite announced that players using iOS and Google Play would be able to purchase in-game currency or packs directly through Epic to facilitate payments. This also made it possible for fans to avoid paying the 30 percent markup on iOS, which made V-Bucks and packs more expensive. Once the change was implemented, Apple removed Fortnite from its store, and a long legal battle ensued.

Nearly five years have passed since this incident, and it has finally been settled in court. The tax has been abolished, gamers won't have to pay fees for in-game purchases, and Fortnite was announced to be returning to iOS in the US soon. On May 1, Tim Sweeney, the founder of Epic Games, announced that players could expect to be able to play Fortnite on iOS devices within the following week but did not reveal the exact date. This, of course, made the community quite excited, as many gamers lost access to Fortnite since this was their only available platform.

Epic Games tries to make up for mistakenly adding an exclusive emote to the Item Shop by refunding the cosmetic's value and giving out freebies.

It seems that the time has finally come. Epic Games has announced that it has officially submitted Fortnite to Apple for review. Once it's been approved, players in the US can expect to have Fortnite available on their device at any time. The community is hopeful that Fortnite could be approved by the end of the day, making it possible for fans to get back into to the game as soon as possible.

When Will Fortnite Become Available on iOS in the US?

  • Fortnite is expected to return to iOS devices before the end of the week.

Epic Games has not confirmed if it will compensate players in any way for losing access to Fortnite for so long, but it wouldn't come as a total surprise if that were the case. When Fortnite returned to iOS devices in the European Union, Epic gave away the Katalina skin for free, and the only thing that players had to do to obtain it was to log in onto a mobile device and earn some XP. Gamers should definitely keep an eye out for mobile quests and free cosmetics that might be included.

Although it took so long to make things right, it's great that more players can enjoy Fortnite once again. Thankfully, this issue was settled within the first week of the release of the latest Fortnite season. This way, more gamers can obtain the Galactic Battle Pass and level up enough to obtain most of its items and cosmetics.
