Summary

  • While the hype for Fortnite's Avatar crossover is clear, there is one downside that Legend of Korra fans have noticed.
  • Fortnite's inclusion of Korra in the game is welcome, but she is the only character from The Legend of Korra included in the game, whereas four characters from the main Avatar series are included.
  • Epic Games has the potential to expand the Fortnite x Avatar crossover by adding more characters from The Legend of Korra, as well as Sokka, who fans desperately want to see in the game.

Though Fortnite's crossover with Avatar: The Last Airbender has garnered a significant amount of attention over the past few days, not every comment has been positive. However, while some fans have expressed disappointment for various reasons, the hype for the upcoming Avatar Elements Event set to launch later this week is still going strong. Sadly, with most of the attention being directed at characters from Avatar: The Last Airbender, Korra's skin now sticks out like a sore thumb.

While Fortnite is no stranger to crossovers with other major IPs, the latest event has been underwhelming for some. With shop prices for Avatar skins set at 2,000 V-Bucks per character, in addition to Sokka being omitted from the crossover, Epic Games has found itself in a controversial spot once again. Furthermore, since Korra is the only character from The Legend of Korra to make an appearance, her inclusion now seems a bit disjointed.

Korra's Inclusion in Fortnite Needs a Follow-Up

While Korra is from the same universe as Aang, the sequel takes place a staggering 70 years later in a more modernized version of the world. Interestingly, Korra's 2012 series didn't achieve the same level of popularity as The Last Airbender, leading to its cancelation by Nickelodeon after its fourth season. Regardless, despite not reaching the same heights as her predecessor, Korra's journey remains a significant chapter within the Avatar universe.

Initially, fans were excited when Fortnite included Korra-themed challenges in the battle pass. However, the subsequent arrival of Toph, Zuko, and Katara in Fortnite just a week later might have overshadowed her. With Aang slated to join during the Avatar Elements Event, Korra will soon be outnumbered 4-to-1 by characters from The Last Airbender. As such, with just Korra representing The Legend of Korra series, it seems that the sequel is currently drastically underrepresented in Fortnite.

Fortnite x Avatar Has Too Much Potential To Be a "One and Done" Event

If Epic Games were to include additional personalities from Korra's series to bridge this gap, it could create a more cohesive Fortnite x Avatar experience. After all, Fortnite has had repeated collaborations before, with Marvel and Naruto being prime examples. Perhaps if the developers decide to revisit Avatar in the future, it'll include the following characters:

  • Sokka
  • Suki
  • Azula
  • Iroh
  • Ty Lee
  • Mai
  • Mako
  • Bolin
  • Asami
  • Amon

While some speculate Sokka's absence stems from his lack of bending abilities, fans still clamor for his inclusion in the battle royale. Given Fortnite's vast roster of characters, excluding Sokka solely for not being a bender seems like a missed opportunity. This isn't an isolated incident, as past collaborations have sparked similar disappointment from fans, missing favorite characters like Suguru Geto in 2023's Jujutsu Kaisen partnership.

There has been no official indication that Sokka was omitted from Fortnite's Avatar: The Last Airbender collaboration for not being a bender. It could be that the number of slots was already full.

Hopefully, Fortnite revisits the Avatar universe with a second wave sometime in the future. Expanding the roster with characters from The Legend of Korra, alongside a long-awaited Sokka cosmetic, would undoubtedly be a huge hit with fans. With any luck, Epic Games will reveal details following the Avatar Elements Event.
