Summary

  • Fans desire the return of the old Fortnite locker system for its efficient organization of skins by features and rarity.
  • The current locker UI receives criticism for being bland and less stylized compared to the old interface.
  • Despite ongoing changes, Fortnite remains a gaming force with a strong player base.

Fans of Fortnite have expressed their desire to return to the old locker system in a viral post making the rounds on Reddit. The now over six-year-old live service game is in its sixth iteration, if the chapters in Fortnite are to be counted as such. With every chapter comes another set of major changes for the game, including the UI, gameplay, features, and more recently, additional game modes.

The most recent chapter, named "Hunters," started on December 1, with the Chapter 6 Season 1 gameplay trailer leaking early on social media. The chapter introduces new movement mechanics, a revamp to the survival LEGO game mode now called LEGO Fortnite Odyssey, and most recently LEGO Brick Life, a new LEGO Fortnite game mode similar to GTA.

With most chapters in Fortnite, UI changes are made to the locker and storefront. Recently, fans expressed their frustrations with the current locker interface in a viral Reddit post on /r/FortNiteBR. The post explains that nostalgia has little to do with the love for the old UI. Instead, fans love how it sorted skins by rarities and other traits, something that Fortnite has been moving away from in recent updates. This adds to the list of complaints about the UI in Fortnite fans have had for a while. The old UI organized skins in a way where players could tell which skins were reactive, had edit styles, built-in emotes, and other identifiable features.

Fortnite Fans Reminisce About the Old Locker UI

Fortnite fans seem to desire a locker UI that can easily identify skins by their features, rarity, edit styles, and more in a compact interface that’s a little more stylized than what Fortnite has now. Players complained about the bland interface design that differs from the more radical angles and shapes the old UI had. Epic Games has made adjustments to the UI in Fortnite based on feedback before, so perhaps that will happen again as fans express constructive criticism.

Fortnite continues to be a massive force in the gaming landscape. An OG mode was released during this chapter as well, with a bunch of classic fan-favorite Fortnite weapons. The game mode was praised by fans who craved the slower-paced gameplay of the early versions of Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode. Fortnite has maintained an average of around three million players a day the past few weeks, with its all-time peak hitting 14,343,880 just over 28 days ago when Chapter 6 was released. Epic Game’s flagship title continues to push a variety of game modes, becoming a sort of gaming metaverse for Fortnite fans.
