A new thumbnail image for the upcoming Fortnite season is a clever callback to an original picture that the battle royale used for the character known as Jonesy. The evolution of Fortnite's battle royale since its arrival in 2018 has been substantial, going from a simple free to play game mode to global sensation with a huge number of crossover events and cosmetics. Fortnite has covered most of the available industries from comic books, movies, tv shows, to video games, music, and countless others, turning the game into a sort of toy box where players can drop in as countless iconic characters like Batman or Spider-Man.

For as much has the game has changed, Epic seems to be teasing a return to the old days with its upcoming season. In-game teasers and various leaks have shown that the original Fortnite battle royale map is making a comeback in some capacity, which has sent fan speculation wild with possible drop spots coming back like Tilted Towers. The latest tease from Epic Games on the Fortnite YouTube Channel appears to be a mix of new and old, which should make both veteran and new players pretty happy.

New Season Image References the Original Battle Royale Image

Eagle-eyed fans have certainly noticed more than a few references for the upcoming season's thumbnail image used in the video. In a clever nod to the original Fortnite Battle Royale image, which showed classic recruit Jonesy standing behind a broken wooden structure holding a red shotgun, a house in the background with player made stairs and other buildable structures, as well as a pile of ammo crates at his feet. The latest teaser thumbnail for Season OG seemingly positions the camera on the other side of this very scene.

While Fortnite has changed a ton over the years, the newest image seemingly meshes the old with the new as the old school looking Jonesy character model is now peeking out behind that same wooden structure, still holding the red shotgun as he looks on to the more outlandish characters and items being used. While the original image showcased the battle bus, a player dropping in via glider, and other classic looking character models, this updated image includes plenty of the newer things that have come to Fortnite over the years including vehicles like planes, all terrain karts, and even The Baller. The image also shows off new outfits including what appears to be a Lil Whip version of Peely, a Ragnarok costume potentially remixed with Omega, and a new Knight outfit variant as well.

Regardless, fans don't have too long to wait as Epic Games not only continues to tease content for the upcoming season, including the Fortnite theme being Rewind, but the full reveal is planned for later this week on November 3. As usual, fans should expect a full gameplay trailer showing off the new outfits, weapons, vehicles, and other elements that will make up the season.
