Fortnite players have often had a love-hate relationship with Siphon, a mechanic that allows them to essentially steal Health and Shield from opponents after eliminating them. While Siphon was a mechanic seen years ago with Reality Augments and limited-time modes, it has since returned to celebrate the 7th anniversary of the iconic Battle Royale, Fortnite.

Now, those who demand a more competitive edge over their opponents can see themselves granted rewards for aggressive playstyles by earning Health and Shield for eliminating players. While this mechanic is in a trial stage under the guise of Siphon Trials, it's essential that players learn what siphon is before heading into their next match of Fortnite Battle Royale.

How to Siphon in Fortnite Battle Royale

Siphon in Fortnite is a mechanic that allows players to steal Health and Shield upon elimination, and in the normal Battle Royale and Zero Build modes, this can only be achieved through the use of Doombot's Siphon Medallion in Chapter 5 Season 4, found on the defeated Doombot in Castle Doom. Doombot's Medallion grants 50 Health and/or 50 Shield on enemy elimination, meaning all players have to do is equip this Medallion and then eliminate players who are in the downed state to see themselves blessed with instant Health/Shield. The Doombot's Siphon Medallion is the only way to activate the siphon mechanic in the standard mode of Battle Royale and Zero Build, and it is not featured in Fortnite Reload.

How to Siphon in Fortnite Ranked

Siphon has entered into the competitive Fortnite space with Fortnite Ranked, where players can jump into the Siphon Trials of Fortnite Ranked in Battle Royale and Zero Build, as well as tournaments. The Siphon Trials will truly experiment with the formula, and each week, players will have to deal with evolving changes to the siphon formula, here's what Fortnite has planned:

Week 1 (starts September 24): 40 Effective Health
Week 2 (starts October 1): 50 Effective Health
Week 3 (starts October 8): 25 Effective Health
Week 4 (starts October 15): 75 Health Over Time (No Shield)
Week 5 (starts October 22): 50 Health (No Shield)
Week 6 starts (October 29): 25 Health, 25 Shield

The schedule may change in the future depending on player feedback, but it's expected to remain the same for the Siphon Trials in Ranked modes. It's also worth noting that this mechanic is completely absent from Ranked Reload, and players who find the Doombot Medallion will only gain 50 Health/Shield, instead of a combined 90.
