It's not uncommon for players to drift off while gaming or simply leave their game open and forget about it until they return. During this time, gamers may enter the player's party and attempt to engage with them to play a game, but if they're away, this could lead to confusion or even a misunderstanding among friends.

What is Siphon in Fortnite?

The siphon mechanic in Fortnite Battle Royale can easily shake up the way players compete against each other, but how exactly does it work?

To make it simpler, Fortnite has a Sleep Mode feature that automatically sets players as away when they've been inactive for more than a couple of minutes. This guide shows gamers how Sleep Mode works in Fortnite, including how to change its timer and how to turn it on and off at any time.

What Is Sleep Mode in Fortnite?

Sleep Mode is a feature that was introduced to Fortnite with the release of update v31.30, which went live on October 1, 2024. When a player is inactive for a given number of minutes, Sleep Mode will activate, and this turns off Voice Chat, cancels matchmaking, and sets the player's status to Away.

This way, if gamers weren't planning to be AFK for too long or fall asleep while playing, the players on their Friends List will know that they aren't actively playing the game.

How to Toggle Sleep Mode in Fortnite

Gamers can also manually turn Sleep Mode on or off. To enter Sleep Mode in Fortnite, open the menu and select the Exit button. Here, they can select "Sleep Mode" to activate it. Once gamers have entered Sleep Mode, they can turn it off by hitting the "Keep Playing" option that appears on the Sleep Mode screen.

How to Change Sleep Mode Settings in Fortnite

Gamers who aren't fans of Sleep Mode automatically turning on after a few minutes can change this in Settings. Alternatively, they can also change the timer or turn it off completely.

To change Sleep Mode settings in Fortnite, players have to open the Settings Menu, visit the Game tab, and then scroll down to the Energy Saving section. In the "Activate Sleep Mode after" area, they can go through all the options and select the one that suits them. Here are the various Sleep Mode timers available in Fortnite:

  • Never
  • 5 Minutes
  • 10 Minutes
  • 15 Minutes
  • 30 Minutes
  • 60 Minutes

Players who set their Sleep Mode to "Never" will only be able to manually activate it.
