Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 3 has been a wild ride, taking players into a superhero-themed season complete with unique gadgets, powers, and a variety of map changes. From blasting around the island using the Bass Boost to even becoming Superman, there has been a lot to uncover.
To close out the season, Fortnite has launched its Summer Road Trip Event, allowing players to claim a variety of rewards completely for free. While most of the event involves completing quests in Fortnite, there are also two unique quests tied to the game’s collaboration with Rocket League. Here’s how to claim the free Hairpin Outfit in Fortnite.
Fortnite: Fantastic Four Cup Guide (Get Fantastic Four Skins Early)
Marvel's First Family debuts in Fortnite earlier than expected with the Fantastic Four Cup, and here's how to compete and win for these skins.
How to Get the Free Hairpin Outfit in Fortnite
Unlike the rest of the Summer Road Trip rewards for Fortnite, the Hairpin Outfit cannot be unlocked by completing quests inside Fortnite. Instead, players will need to head on over to Rocket League and complete challenges as part of that game's Summer Road Trip Event. There are two Fortnite exclusive rewards that players can earn through Rocket League, both of which are tied to a specific challenge in the event. These are as follows:
- League Balloon Glider: Play a private match with custom mutators during the Summer Road Trip
- Hairpin Outfit: Get 15 saves or epic saves in Online Matches during the Summer Road Trip
Once players have completed both challenges, the League Balloon Glider and the Hairpin Outfit will be unlocked in Fortnite right away, so long as players are playing on the same Epic Account used for Fortnite in Rocket League. In addition, players can also unlock some exclusive Rocket League rewards, with the last one transferring over to Fortnite. These are as follows:

How to Play a Private Match with Custom Mutators in Rocket League
To play a Private Match with Custom Mutators in Rocket League, players need to adjust the Mutator Settings before starting the match. Once complete, players will earn the League Balloon Glider when loading into Fortnite. Here’s a quick step-by-step guide on how to do it:
- Press Play and navigate to Private Match.
- Select Create Private Match.
- If playing solo, set the Bot Difficulty to any value other than No Bots.
- Go to Mutator Settings and change any settings from their default values.
- Go back, select Create Match, and play through the Private Match to complete the objective.
How to Get Saves or Epic Saves in Online Matches in Rocket League
To get Saves and Epic Saves in Rocket League, players simply need to stop the ball from entering their team’s goal when it is nearby. This can be done in all online modes, and since both regular Saves and Epic Saves count, staying near the goal and defending in any game mode should allow players to rack up a few in no time.
However, the best way to farm Saves and Epic Saves quickly is to play Heatseeker Doubles in the Casual Playlist and stick near the goal to deflect the ball. Since the ball automatically targets the goal, it’s much easier to earn Saves and Epic Saves this way. Once players get a total of 15 Saves or Epic Saves, they will be awarded the Hairpin Outfit upon loading into Fortnite.
The Rocket League Summer Road Trip and its rewards are available until August 5. The Hairpin Outfit and the League Balloon Glider may also return in the Fortnite Item Shop at a later date.
