Summary
- Fortnite players are unhappy with the addition of the Tesla Cybertruck, declaring war against those who drive it in-game.
- The backlash against the Cybertruck collaboration reflects a widespread distaste for the vehicle's design and real-life issues.
- Despite ongoing collaborations, some players may be growing tired of these partnerships, sparking vocal discontent within the Fortnite community.
Some Fortnite players want the Tesla Cybertruck gone, and they're willing to take drastic measures. Fortnite has been dominating the gaming space for the better part of a decade now, and although it stumbled a little bit initially, Epic Games' decision to double down on the battle royale format and consistently implement attention-grabbing updates and features has created an appeal that has often left some of the game's competitors overshadowed.
Fortnite has been doing collaborations quite consistently, and many gamers have been excited about each one. Most recently, the summer updates for Fortnite included a Pirates of the Caribbean x Fortnite crossover that features Jack Sparrow and pirate-themed adventures like taking on a Kraken boss fight. It has seemed for a long time that, regardless of the in-game collaboration, there had always been some fans excited about it. This time, that excitement doesn't seem to be nearly as present.
Fortnite: How to Get the Free Tesla Cybertruck
Fortnite players can get the stylistic Cybertruck for free if they are able to complete the Summer Road Trip quests.
Fortnite players have decided to declare war against Tesla Cybertruck drivers in the game. As part of an in-game promotion, Fortnite and Tesla have included the Cybertruck. In response, gamers have launched an offensive, calling the Cybertruck "stupid" and insisting that everyone should get rid of it at any opportunity. On social media, dawnyaaan proposes a truce between any player that sees someone using the car, insisting on destroying it, and potentially eliminating anyone using it "as many times as necessary."
Fortnite Gamers Aren't Happy With Tesla Cybertruck Crossover
Despite the enthusiasm that plenty of the characters in the trailers for the collaboration show, it's evident that many players don't actually feel the same way. This backlash seems to reflect many gamers' collective feelings about the Cybertruck, which looks a lot like a vehicle that's been ripped out of Halo: Combat Evolved. The vehicle has gotten plenty of flak for simply looking goofy in real life, along with significant issues leading to recalls. Whether this war takes off is up to gamers themselves, but it could bring in more traffic to Fortnite for the sole purpose of eradicating Cybertrucks.
Although Fortnite has a longstanding reputation for not seeming to miss the shots it takes with collabs, this vocal discontent does call into question whether some players are tired of collaborations in general, or if they're only tired of some collaborations. Fortnite leaks are pointing to new Marvel collaborations in celebration of Deadpool & Wolverine's release, which could give Fortnite a chance at redemption.
