While Fortnite's annual Halloween festivities are usually somewhat spooky, 2024's Fortnitemares will be especially frightening, with two horror legends, Leatherface and Billy the Puppet, making their official introductions into Epic Games' ever-expanding digital world. The two characters arguably sit toward the very top when it comes to iconic horror movie villains, with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Saw both spawning numerous sequels, spin-offs and even their own video games. Soon, players will have the chance to play as these classic characters, with Epic Games teasing Fortnite's upcoming Halloween event.
While players still have quite a ways to go until the next Fortnite season, fans can look forward to the game's upcoming Halloween event Fortnitemares. Each October, Epic Games celebrates the grim and spooky holiday with new in-game items, which include new weapons and skins as well as new challenges for players to complete. Just like regular Fortnite, collaboration skins are the most talked-about part of these limited-time events, with this year's celebration being no different. Along with new items and features, two classic horror film characters will make their debut in Fortnite.
Fortnite Parental Controls Are Getting a Big Upgrade
Epic Games confirms it will be introducing more parental controls to Fortnite, giving parents the power to limit the amount of time their kids play.
Fortnitemares has not yet been officially announced, but a new loading screen for Fortnite reveals what is assumed to be key art for the event, showing off Billy the Puppet from the Saw franchise front and center, with Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre sneaking up on the left. Fortnite is no stranger to creepy skins and R-rated brands, with past updates adding slasher icon Michael Myers as well as the infamous Xenomorph from the Alien franchise into the mix. However, Leatherface and Billy the Puppet are certainly some of the most gruesome and graphic characters added to the game yet, making 2024's Fortnitemares that much scarier.
Two New Horror Icons Confirmed For Fortnite
While it can be easy to focus on the two new horror characters, the new key art also includes a look at several other new items and skins. Fans will notice a new purple version of Guff, a Halloween remix of Red Knight, a new Lexa, and a creepy version of Marshmello. While the release date for the event is still unknown, it's rumored Fortnite's Halloween makeover will begin on October 15, which is likely given that the studio often releases new Fortnite updates on a Tuesday.
Collaborations are a big part of Fortnite's brand and ecosystem, with the game recently releasing a slew of new skins based on Disney Pixar's Incredibles franchise. These skins hit the in-game item shop weeks after being announced during Disney's D23 fan event, which saw Disney also make several other announcements regarding its partnership with Epic Games. Fortnite's current Chapter 5 Season 4 update wraps up on November 2, giving players about a month left to tidy up their Battle Pass.
