What Is an Unstable Weapon in Fortnite?
Unstable weapons are Fortnite's newest term for Exotic weapons. Unstable weapons are enhanced versions of unique weapons in the loot pool, which have unique traits and special effects, meaning that their stats are improved, but they have perks that other weapons do not. For instance, the Unstable Frostfire Shotgun will provide players with incredible headshot damage as well as a speed boost to their movement. The release of Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 3 has just 3 Unstable weapons, but more are set to debut throughout the season until its end date on August 8.
How to Get Unstable Weapons in Fortnite
As of the release of Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 3, Unstable weapons are obtained through Rank S Hero Caches, Academy Tech Labs, and the Overlord Spire boss fight. The Overlord Spire spawns at a random POI, but can be located on the map through its distinct symbol from the other Spires. The Overlord Spire is protected by minions and is easily destroyed with plenty of ammunition by destroying the shielded masks that surround it. Once the Overlord Spire has been destroyed, a random Unstable weapon will drop.
