Fortnite unveiled its latest patch notes, bringing highly anticipated changes to characters’ movements as well as a variety of balance updates and quality-of-life improvements. These changes come after the Big Bang event in Fortnite to bring various adjustments to Epic Games’ flagship title before its next major update, planned for early 2024.

Fortnite recently brought back the original Chapter 1 map with the release of Fortnite Season OG. This time-limited event brought back fan favorite items and locations that disappeared with the launch of Fortnite Chapter 2. The Big Bang event marked the end of Fortnite Season OG and teased new game modes including a LEGO crossover and a Rocket League-inspired mode for Fortnite. Besides these new features and return of past maps and items, Epic Games continues to provide regular updates to Fortnite to ensure an optimal player experience across all game modes.

In its latest patch notes, Fortnite announced a variety of improvements across Fortnite Battle Royale, LEGO Fortnite, Rocket Racing, and Fortnite Festival. The latest Fortnite update brings improvements to characters’ movements, increasing the overall movement speed when crouching and running for a smoother experience. The movement animation and camera movement were improved to match these speed adjustments, and players can further customize camera options through the “Custom Diagonal Movement” settings.

On top of these movement changes, the latest Fortnite patch notes improved the overall visibility of Society Medallion icons, areas that were too dark during the night, and the Storm’s edges to better see how close it is. Moreover, the weapon icons Frenzy Auto Shotgun and the Thunder Burst SMG were considered too similar by the Fortnite community, so Epic Games updated them to be more visually unique. Several balance changes impact the efficiency of various weapons in Fortnite Battle Royale, with further adjustments for LEGO Fortnite and Rocket Racing.

While the OG Season brought back the iconic first map in Fortnite, it also removed various features to give players a more authentic experience. Leaks recently suggested the imminent return of Reality Augments in Fortnite, with Epic Games bringing back this feature with the release of Fortnite's Week 3 Weekly Quests. Rumors are also growing regarding the addition of late rapper Juice WRLD to the game, while other speculations suggest that Epic Games could add a new game mode in Fortnite inspired by Fall Guys.

Fortnite Battle Royale Balance Changes

  • Flowberries now grant more Shield.
  • Increased damage for the Ranger Pistol, Shield Breaker EMP, and Ballistic Shield's pistol.
  • Snowball Launcher mag size reduced.
  • Thunder Burst SMG mag size increased.
  • Reduced the drop rate of the Reaper Sniper Rifle.
  • Striker AR deals less damage.
  • The circle indicating a Society Medallion holder is smaller.
  • Society Medallions now have a brief delay before Shield regen begins. They also have slightly reduced regen rates and no longer refill 100% Shield (unless you have all five).

Fortnite Battle Royale Balance Changes

  • The durability of non-Rare/non-Epic tools and weapons has increased by 30%. For Rare/Epic tools and weapons, the durability has increased by 60%!
  • Reduced damage of the Brute’s Poison area for all three Brutes.
  • Reduced damage of the Frost Scorpion explosion.
  • Sand Scorpions, Scorpions found in caves, regular Scorpions, Crabs on the shoreline, Sand Spiders, and Alpine Frost Spiders are slightly easier to defeat.
  • Rams now give Heavy Wool.
  • Grapplers now hold 30 charges.
  • Spiders won’t jumpscare you as often when turning over rocks.
