With over 7 years and 35 seasons (and going strong), Fortnite has held riveting success and continues to hold the title of King when it comes to the best Battle Royale. Despite the love that everyone has for Fortnite, there are a few seasons that slip through the cracks and provide an experience that not everyone is going to enjoy or have fond memories of.
Every Season Of Fortnite, Ranked
Fortnite is one of the most popular games and part of this is due to the game reinvigorating itself with season updates.
Fortnite’s worst seasons can be seen as hated and controversial, but it can never be denied that Epic Games puts a lot of effort into these seasons and chapters to provide an immense layer of fun to players. Take a look down memory lane to see what some consider to be the most controversial seasons of Fortnite.
8 Season X
A Farewell to Chapter 1 With a Frenzied Loot Pool
- Start Date: August 1, 2019
- End Date: October 13, 2019
Season X was a celebration of Fortnite, an anxiety-riddled understanding that all good things must come to an end. With Season X being the last of Chapter 1, fans were enthralled by its constant stream of exciting updates, but did Epic Games go too far in a few places? Season X had a map that was falling apart under the stress of previous seasons, and many mechanics made things feel like a frenzy, and that’s without mentioning the dreaded loot pool with OP weapons and B.R.U.T.E.S. That made a victory royale so much more stressful than previous seasons.
7 Chapter 6 Mini-Season 1: Galactic Battle
Star Wars Takes Over the Island
- Start Date: May 2, 2025
- End Date: June 7, 2025
Chapter 6 Mini-Season 1 did something that many fans of the galaxy far, far away would have wanted, by crossing Fortnite x Star Wars into one season. However, this season was limited to only a month, and the updates lacked significant content to engage with evolving map differences, weapons, and most importantly, Star Wars skins. The hype for the first week was there, but things just stayed the same, and outside of an epic Death Star Sabotage event, the Galactic Battle season was one that quite a few players were eager to see end for a classic Fortnite loot pool without lightsabers and blasters.
6 Chapter 4 Season 4: Last Resort
A Stale Season That Forces Epic to Go OG
- Start Date: August 25, 2023
- End Date: November 3, 2023
Chapter 4 Season 4: Last Resort is appropriately named, as it feels like it was Epic’s last resort when it came to providing an engaging season. Chapter 4 wasn’t a fan favorite, and Last Resort seemed to follow the same trend of mediocracy, building into the hype of an eventual return to Fortnite OG with the Chapter 1 map. With a heist theme and plenty of vaults to loot for spy-themed gear, Chapter 4 Season 4 didn’t have the best loot pool, nor a memorable Battle Pass, thus placing this season in the forgettable list rather than the bad list.

5 Chapter 2 Season 1: New World
A New Map Was Hard to Warm Up To
- Start Date: October 15, 2019
- End Date: February 19, 2020
It’s always hard to say goodbye, especially to something so great. The Chapter 1 map is beautiful, one that everyone adored – so when it left after Season X, players were always going to have a hard time accepting what came next. The Chapter 2 map was bigger, more beautiful, and even had mechanics that one would expect from an open-world. However, the Chapter 2 map featured in Season 1 didn’t go through enough updates to warrant anything exciting, and the map seemed a tad large, with fishing taking priority over a Victory Royale since matches would last so long.
4 Chapter 4 Season 3: Wilds
Optimus Prime Can’t Save a Punishing Jungle
- Start Date: June 9, 2023
- End Date: August 25, 2023
Chapter 4 Season 3: Wilds might have had a cool Battle Pass thanks to the introduction of the one and only Optimus Prime, but it was also one that didn’t feel like anything new. Wilds felt safe, and the map changes that made the center of a map an expansive hidden jungle filled with fast sliding mud, climbable vines, and high-ground trees, just served as an annoying place to fight in the Battle Royale, complete with the overpowered Thermal DMR to ensure competition was eradicated at any distance. Riding dinosaurs and throwing Boomerangs was fun, but that same fun felt rather limited with a lack of engaging updates.
3 Chapter 2 Season 6: Primal
Craft Weapons and Bond with Animals
- Start Date: March 16, 2021
- End Date: June 7, 2021
Chapter 2 Season 6: Primal might be where some players felt like Fortnite was getting stale. Yet, Epic Games did try something new, much to their credit, but it’s just a shame that what they tried wasn’t exactly fun for everyone. Primal featured a weapon crafting system to enhance Primal weapons, but the guns felt weird and imprecise, providing a varying performance that wasn’t fun to wield. There are some nice elements to the Primal season, like the Spire and boss fights, but the map itself just felt a tad large with nothing to do.
Fortnite: 18 Rarest Skin in 2024
Fortnite celebrates its 7th anniversary in 2024, but within that time, there are still some skins that haven't returned in over half that time.
2 Chapter 3 Season 4: Paradise
The Island Goes Chrome
- Start Date: September 18, 2022
- End Date: December 3, 2022
There was a lot to love about Chapter 3, Season 4: Paradise. Popular drop spots and POIs would slowly change with each week, and the loot pool was expansive thanks to the vaults and air balloons that provided players with the high ground. Yet, it wasn’t until a few weeks in that progress for Paradise seemed to just stop, and the map would suffer for it. From a lore perspective, Paradise also disappoints. The Seven seems to just… end, and the Live Event was nothing to write home about, which felt more like Party Royale than anything memorable.
1 Chapter 5 Season 3: Wrecked
A Season Dominated by Vehicles
- Start Date: May 24, 2024
- End Date: August 15, 2024
Chapter 5 Season 3: Wrecked is the definition of “you love it or hate it”. The season introduces an apocalyptic wasteland, providing parts of the map with an empty desert to roam in. Where this season really comes in at a controversial pick is with the meta change, as weapons weren’t the thing to get a Victory Royale – cars were. Vehicles had a lot more health and packed a more violent punch, allowing players to upgrade them with deadly effects to shoot their foes from behind the wheel and run them over. Wrecked was a mayhem season, and many players didn’t enjoy the vehicular chaos associated with it, as the fight was almost a guaranteed loss if a vehicle was approaching a humble player with their boots on the ground.
