Forza Horizon 4 is the perfect game to play with a controller. Exploring the gorgeous world of Great Britain while relaxing in your chair or sofa is an ideal way to unwind after a hard day’s work. However, you might miss out on this experience if you have the wrong controller.
Unfortunately, this Microsoft-published game doesn’t natively support the DualSense controller, which is disappointing, as some PC players prefer using it instead of the Xbox One controller. Thankfully, there’s a way to make the DualSense work with the game.
Forza Horizon 4: 7 Of The Hardest Cars To Unlock
Not all cars in Forza Horizon 4 are easy to acquire. Here are the hardest ones available for players to unlock.
How To Make DualSense Work on Forza Horizon 4
While the DualSense controller is not natively supported by Forza Horizon 4, you can make it work using Steam. Follow these steps to have your game recognize your PS5 controller:
- Find Forza Horizon 4 in your library.
- Right-click on it and select Properties.
- Navigate to the Controller tab.
- Change “Override for Forza Horizon 4” to Use Default Settings.
Now, you can open Forza Horizon 4, and your controller will be recognized by the game. However, keep in mind that you will see Xbox prompts instead of PlayStation ones. If that doesn't bother you, you’re all set. But if you prefer the correct prompts, continue reading.
Forza Horizon 4 supports both wired and wireless modes for controllers.
Alternatively, you can use software like DS4Windows or DualSenseX to emulate the DualSense as an Xbox controller. However, this method is more complicated, so it's recommended to stick with Steam for a simpler setup.
Forza Horizon 5: 30 Fast Cars That Handle Really Well
Forza Horizon 5 players know that the fastest cars can be hard to control sometimes, but these ones handle smoothly and can still reach high speeds.
How To Get DualSense Prompts in Forza Horizon 4
To get the DualSense prompts, head over to NexusMods and download the PS Buttons mod by fr3374. While this mod is designed for Forza Horizon 5, it will also work for FH4.
Once you have downloaded the file, copy the ControllerIcons.zip (DO NOT UNRAR IT) and paste it in two locations:
- Forza Horizon 4 Install Directory\media\UI\Textures\Data_Bound
- Forza Horizon 4 Install Directory\media\UI\Textures\HiRes\Data_Bound
You will need to replace the existing files, so be sure to do that.
Now, open the game again and use your DualSense controller. You should now see the correct prompts, allowing you to play without getting confused by Xbox prompts.
Although we tested this entire method with DualSense controllers, the same process should work seamlessly with the DualShock 4 as well. While the prompts for the DS4 differ slightly in color from those of the DualSense, the actual icons remain the same.
