While some FPS games aren't too challenging and instead focus on delivering a good story or complex multiplayer game modes, others also make it a top priority to make combat difficult. • Realistic battlefield mechanics
  • Complex, punishing game modes

Escape From Tarkov is set between 2015 and 2026, right in the middle of a political scandal that has caused major sociopolitical issues in the Economic Zone of Norvinsk. This realistic hardcore first-person shooter incorporates many elements from real battlefield situations that raise the stakes and make the gaming experience feel very believable and serious. Unlike other, more lenient FPS games with similar topics and settings, Escape From Tarkov is never simple, presenting players with considerable challenges in every game mode that will force them to hone their skills and improve their battlefield strategies.

Any other game with such realistic and punishing game mechanics would be at risk of failing due to player frustration. However, the gunplay in Escape From Tarkov is so great and entertaining, that even when circumstances are not favorable, it's still a blast.

4 Rainbow Six Siege

Very Enjoyable, Even With All The Tactical Complexities Involved

Although Rainbow Six Siege focuses much more heavily on multiplayer action than it does on anything story-related, there are some narrative elements present that complement it greatly. This led to the reactivation of Team Rainbow to counteract the terrorist threats and restore worldwide order.

The game features many different Operators that players can choose from; each one belonging to multiple Counter-Terrorism Units spread across the world. Typically, matches consist of five players in each team, for a total of ten. Players only get one life per round, so they must be very careful regarding how they approach and attack the enemy to ensure they are the killer and not the victim. Rainbow Six Siege is certainly a very challenging game that forces players to constantly rethink their strategies and adapt to the enemies they're facing. Thankfully, this title's amazing tactical game mechanics make for an extremely enjoyable experience that offsets any potential frustration that might arise from the arduous challenge.

  • Zeta Halo looks very similar to the environments in the original game
  • The new grappling hook allows for better combat mechanics that are a lot of fun

The announcement of Halo Infinite was surrounded by a lot of controversy. While some fans of the franchise were immediately stoked about the news, others were quick to point out the incomplete Brute models from the first gameplay impressions. Luckily, while it wasn't perfect, the game turned out to be very well-polished in many areas and delivered yet another great installment in Master Chief's story.

Halo Infinite is set in Zeta Halo, one of the seven Halo rings spread throughout the galaxy. To many veteran players' delight, Zeta Halo's design is very similar to that of the environments in Halo: Combat Evolved, which not only took veteran fans through memory lane, but also added to the overall experience of the game. While Halo Infinite isn't too challenging in the lower difficulties, playing on Legendary ups the ante considerably and delivers a challenging experience for those looking for one. Featuring the new grappling hook, as well as famous weapons from previous installments of the franchise and some new ones, Halo Infinite is a blast to complete.

  • Doom Eternal improved greatly upon its 2016 predecessor
  • The game features amazing demon designs, a smashing soundtrack, and fast-paced FPS mechanics

The DOOM franchise is probably older than millions of gamers today, and over the years, it has evolved and improved upon itself in more than one way. While the franchise was already very popular by the 2000s and 2010s, the games released around that era hadn't been able to be as successful as the 90s classics. Fortunately, that changed in 2016 with the reboot DOOM, and its amazing sequel, DOOM Eternal.

The 2020 title was a massive success, improving upon the 2016 game in many different ways. Doom Eternal's combat is anything but easy, especially in the Nightmare and Ultra-Nighmtare difficulties. However, given how incredibly well the game plays, the great weapon variety available, and the smashing soundtrack that accompanies the culling of demons, dying over and over again while trying to complete a level never feels like a chore.
