The new 5v5 hero shooter FragPunk was announced during Xbox Games Showcase. Gamers eagerly anticipated the June 9 Xbox Games Showcase, although many did not expect to be surprised by the sheer amount of games announced. Plenty of gamers were impressed by the amount of releases that appear to be juggling exciting gameplay, polished visuals, and quickly approaching release dates in addition to this new FPS.
Plenty of gamers were most excited about Call of Duty Black Ops 6, which was shown off and seems to be fulfilling the expectation that players have for a standard first-person shooter. Black Ops 6 did introduce new movement systems along with an overhaul to gameplay systems to keep the release fresh while still impressing new and longtime players. There do appear to be other shooters arriving on systems too, such as FragPunk.

Plenty of the gameplay of FragPunk presents is the first-person hero shooters that gamers have become familiar with, with a "radical" new change. Through the inclusion of a deck of over 70 cards, players will be able to alter the flow of matches in unique ways, such as making heads bigger to take enemies out faster, or "Chain Reaction," which will generate chain lightning through bullet contact.
FragPunk Reveal Trailer Promises Always Changing Gameplay
FragPunk boasts stylish visuals combined with thematically similar gameplay, indicative of a match that can change at any second. The game will include 10 heroes to pick from, 14 weapons, 4 maps, and systems that allow players to capitalize on the various synergies and counterplays that these elements create. The game is stated as competitive, which means it may create an opportunity for dedicated players to lead it into a similar space as other popular strategic hero shooters like Valorant which just got its own console announcement.
Some gamers were quick to point out the similarity that FragPunk bears to Friends vs Friends, Brainwash Gang's 2023 release that offers players 1v1 or 2v2 matches with the use of a card system to alter gameplay. The overall larger scale and promise of a competitive scene with FragPunk appears to be drawing the attention of many other players. Some appear to be enticed by the free-to-play aspect of the game. Plenty of gamers are looking forward to seeing more of FragPunk by the time of its slated 2025 release.
