Freedom Wars Remastered showcased its gameplay and new additions in a trailer recently released by Bandai Namco. In addition to its enhanced visuals, the action RPG has modified the game's balance, added a new difficulty level, and updated various other features. Freedom Wars Remastered launches on January 10 for PS4, PS5, Switch, and PC.

In the past, Sony lost exclusivity for the Monster Hunter series. Capcom decided to bring its renowned monster-hunting games to Nintendo's newer consoles, like the Wii and Nintendo 3DS, forgoing its relationship with Sony temporarily. In response, PlayStation's parent company developed Freedom Wars for the PS Vita. While its futuristic setting sharply contrasts with Monster Hunter, the gameplay loop is practically identical. Players battle massive mechanical creatures called Abductors, harvest their parts, and upgrade their gear to repeat the offensive with enhanced combat capabilities.

To illustrate how the gameplay system in Freedom Wars Remastered works, Bandai Namco released a new trailer. The video opens by introducing the main character, a Sinner convicted of the crime of being born. The game is set in a dystopian world in which natural resources have been exhausted. The Sinner's sentence involves undertaking missions to contribute to their Panopticon, or their respective city-state. Missions range from rescuing citizens and destroying Abductors to capturing control systems. These can be completed solo or in online co-op mode.

Freedom Wars Remastered Showcases Its Gameplay Systems

The trailer goes on to highlight the updates introduced in Freedom Wars Remastered. The first improvement is in graphics, which jump from a resolution of 544p to 2160p (4K) for PS5 and PC while maintaining 60 FPS. On PS4, the maximum resolution is 1080p at 60 FPS, whereas the Switch will run at the same resolution but at 30 FPS. The RPG will feature a faster-paced gameplay experience compared to the original, thanks to improved design and new mechanics like increased movement speed and the ability to cancel weapon attacks.

The crafting and upgrade systems in Freedom Wars Remastered have also been overhauled, now boasting more user-friendly interfaces and attachable/detachable modules at will. A new feature is module synthesis, which allows players to enhance modules with help from the citizens they've rescued. Finally, the trailer introduces the Deadly Sinner difficulty mode, aimed at hardcore players, and confirms that all the customization DLC from the Freedom Wars' PS Vita version will be available from the start.
