The entire gang's back together in the official Friends: The Reunion trailer released by HBO Max on Wednesday. The highly-anticipated special has been talked about for years, but the trailer brings it that much closer to reality, with the premiere date for the unscripted event set for late May.
The two-minute Friends: The Reunion trailer offers fans a glimpse of the fun and the emotional reunion between the cast of the much-loved TV sitcom. The preview shows the six main actors visiting the iconic apartments that were located across the hall from each other and recreating some of the funniest moments from the series.
While watching the original cast members reunite is a treat enough for hardcore fans of the series, the trailer also reminds them of the most memorable game night, Phoebe’s reaction to finding out about Monica and Chandler, and Ross and Rachel’s “we were on a break.” The reunion has been taped on two different locations, including the series’ iconic set on Warner Bros. Studio lot in Burbank and the easily recognizable fountain from Friends' opening credits. Both of these are shown in the trailer, which is bound to stir the pot of nostalgia among fans. All that is missing is the iconic song by The Rembrandts, "I'll Be There for You."
Friends: The Reunion brings back the beloved lead actors from the extremely popular sitcom one last time, including Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer, and Matt LeBlanc. The six of them are still associated with their onscreen characters from Friends. Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Chandler, Ross, and Joey weren't just the main characters, they had also become household names back in the '90s.
Apart from the six main actors, the unscripted special will also feature a lot of returning and new actors, as disclosed by the studio just a few days ago. Among the returning cast is Maggie Wheeler, who portrayed Janice, Reese Witherspoon, who appeared as Rachel’s sister Jill, Elliot Gould and Christina Pickles, who portrayed Monica and Ross’s parents, James Michael, known for his role as Gunther, and Tom Selleck, who played Monica's older boyfriend. Guest stars will include David Beckham, Justin Bieber, BTS, James Corden, Lady Gaga, Malala Yousafzai, and others.
Friends, created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman, ran for a decade from September 22, 1994, to May 6, 2004. It followed the story of six friends who resided in New York City and how their lives are intertwined from the very beginning. Almost 27 years after the show first premiered, it still has a substantial fan following and is considered one of the best TV series ever created by many. The award-winning show is definitely a pop culture phenomenon.
Friends: The Reunion premieres on HBO Max on May 27, 2021.
