On Saturday, October 11th, 2025, it was revealed that the Frieren manga will be going on an indefinite hiatus. The reason being Kanehito Yamada's and Tsukasa Abe's health conditions. The news is hardly surprising, as the manga industry is known to be brutal.
Many authors have suffered from ill health because of the long working hours. The manga being on an indefinite hiatus strongly implies that both Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe have serious health issues. Hopefully, the break serves them well, and they recover fully before finally resuming their work.
While Frieren fans might be disheartened by the manga's hiatus, they must remember that they still have the anime to look forward to. As previously stated, the second season of Frieren will be released in January 2026. It is produced by Madhouse, so the quality is bound to be excellent. Presently, there is no news about the episode count, but it will likely be the same as the first. Fans can expect the second season to be divided into two cours.
Frieren Might Win Anime Of The Year Award
Frieren Season 1 was nominated for Crunchyroll's Anime of the Year award but eventually lost to Solo Leveling. Hopefully, the new season of Frieren will end up doing one better and win the accolade.
But it will face stern competition from the likes of Jujutsu Kaisen, Oshi no Ko, and Hell's Paradise. All the aforementioned anime have massive fan bases, who are eagerly waiting for the return of their favorite series.
Frieren Season 2 will also help the manga to sell more copies. The first season was watched throughout the world, and it earned stellar reviews. As the fame began to spread, more and more fans decided to try the manga and read it for themselves. This increased the sales and enabled it to cross the 30 million mark. The next season will inevitably have a positive effect and enhance the sales yet again.
